The Spanish Association Against Cancer in Valladolid presents the XII Valladolid Walk Against Cancer, sponsored by Iberdrola España, which will take place on Sunday 29 October, as announced this Monday at the City Hall. Given the historical trajectory of the event, it is expected to reach a participation of more than 50,000 people, making it once again the largest march in Spain.
The presentation was attended by the mayor of the city, Jesús Julio Carnero; the president of the Association in Valladolid, Artemio Domínguez; the Commercial Director of Iberdrola España in Castilla y León, Celiano García; and one of the recipients of the Association's Predoctoral Grant in Valladolid, Lara Sanoguera, which finances her study on hereditary alterations in breast and ovarian cancer.
The money raised will be used to continue financing the Research Grants promoted by the Valladolid headquarters, which this year amount to 600,000 euros.
As a novelty, this year a marquee will be set up in the Plaza de Zorrilla (next to the VALLADOLID letters), to inform about the oncological research being carried out in Valladolid, by the holders of the Predoctoral Grants of the Spanish Association Against Cancer, who currently have seven active studies.
Once again this year, Iberdrola españa is the main sponsor of the march.
The Valladolid Walk Against Cancer has the special support of Iberdrola España as the main collaborator for the seventh consecutive year. This is part of the agreement between the two entities to work both in research to improve diagnosis and treatment of cancer, as well as to raise social awareness in the fight against the disease.
Iberdrola España and the Spanish Association Against Cancer have a long-standing relationship that was consolidated in 2015 with the signing of a collaboration agreement aimed at cancer research. The continued commitment of the company and its customers has made Iberdrola the main private collaborator of the Association.
Among the most innovative initiatives developed within the framework of this agreement is Juntos contra el cáncer, a project through which Iberdrola España offers its customers the possibility of collaborating with the association, pledging to double the amount they donate monthly through their electricity or gas bill.
Organisation of this edition
The start, at 10:30 am, will be located at the sports tracks of the Campo Grande promenade and the 5 kilometre route can be run or walked. The finish line will be at the end of the bus lane on the Recoletos pavement. Participants will have to start from the starting line towards the Plaza de Zorrilla and the Paseo del Príncipe del Campo Grande.
Participants who are going to run the race will be placed in the first line. The second starting line (at the Tourist Office) will be for those who are walking. For safety reasons, skates, scooters and bicycles will not be allowed to take part in the walk.
This is a non-competitive sporting and recreational event and is open to all those who wish to collaborate with the Spanish Association Against Cancer.
The race bibs will be given out with the registration. The first 30,000 registrants will receive a T-shirt (limited number of T-shirts and no exchanges are allowed). The rest of the participants will receive another gift.
In combination with each participant's bib number, a prize draw will be held with gifts donated by the collaborating companies. The list of the winning numbers will be published on Sunday 29th on the website valladolidenmarchaconchacontraelcancer.org, El Norte de Castilla, El Mundo Valladolid and on the website of El Día de Valladolid. The prizes will be handed out at the Association's headquarters from Monday 30 October for a period of one month.
After the walk, participants can download the photos on the website www.persigueme.es, allowing 100% of those purchased to be donated to the Association.
Free access by bus from several municipalities
The Provincial Council of Valladolid, in collaboration with the local branches of the Spanish Association Against Cancer, will provide free access to the Walk with a total of 17 buses that will mobilise participants from 25 towns in the province, representing nearly 1,000 people. In addition, town councils from other municipalities closer to the city will also provide buses.
