Iberdrola España, the Rei Afonso Henriques Foundation -Frah- and the Regional Government of Castilla y León have launched a new environmental education programme – "Sin tiempo" (“Running Out of Time”) –, involving 10 schools in the province and over 300 secondary school students from Zamora in order to warn that the fight against climate change is the most important challenge we face.
Participants will find clues, through challenges that will test their awareness and commitment to climate change mitigation actions. This activity will help them discover how important it is to take care of the planet.
This initiative aims to raise awareness and educate young people through an activity that allows them to reflect and acquire critical awareness.
"This is an innovative and motivating proposal with environmental content that we will carry out in our facilities, in a natural environment, in order to involve young people in the action in favour of the environment and the fight against climate change", said José Luis Gonzalez Prada, director of the Rei Afonso Henriques Foundation.
In addition, Miguel Calvo, Iberdrola España's delegate in Castilla y León, pointed out that "we are on time to promote the transition towards a sustainable model, understanding the role that energy and mobility play in the climate challenge. Iberdrola España is committed to the goal of reducing emissions from both traditional transport and the use of fossil fuels".
"We encourage these programmes that promote awareness, training and action in relation to the environment – as a strategy for the conservation and management of natural resources. The promotion of responsible and respectful habits and attitudes towards the environment should promote proactive behaviour both towards mitigating and adapting to climate change and towards the sustainable and efficient operation of schools in the province," said Fernando Prada, provincial director of education in Zamora.
This educational and playful tool is part of the materials developed within the framework of the "Change is in your hands" project that both entities launched in 2022, addressing the transition towards a greener energy model and the modification of consumption habits that help to decarbonise the planet and reduce CO2 emissions.
The professionals of the future
