Iberdrola España and Gran Vía Alicante Launched a Charging Infrastructure with Capacity for 32 Electric Vehicles

  • The facility, which has superfast, fast and semi-fast charging points, has become a benchmark for electric mobility in the city

  • The charging infrastructure, located in the shopping centre's car park, supplies 100% green energy from renewable generation sources

Iberdrola España and the Gran Vía Alicante shopping centre are joining forces to promote sustainable mobility by launching a charging infrastructure with capacity for 32 electric vehicles in the shopping centre's car park. This charging point will make the site a benchmark for electric mobility in the city.

The facility has a 150 kilowatt (kW) superfast charging point with two outlets, which is part of the Iberdrola | bp pulse connection, four 50 kW fast charging points, one 22 kW point with two outlets and 12 points with two outlets of up to 10.6 kW. To carry out the agreement, Iberdrola España provided the equipment, its installation and management; and Gran Vía Alicante provided a place in the car park where the chargers are located.

It should be noted that users of these facilities charge the battery of their electric cars with 100% green energy, from renewable generation sources, with a guarantee of origin certificate (GdOs). Furthermore, the charging points are located in the Iberdrola Public Charging App, from which you can geolocate the charger, check its operation in real time and book and pay from your mobile phone.

According to Joaquín Longares, Iberdrola España's Sales Representative in the Valencia region, "thanks to the collaboration with the management of Gran Vía Alicante shopping centre, more than 30 charging points of different power ratings are now up and running. This infrastructure will allow users a wide variety of charging options according to the time they plan to spend in the shopping centre and thus provide a service for electric vehicle users who have opted for sustainable, emission-free mobility".

Javier Montejano, Asset Manager of Gran Vía Alicante, states that he is "delighted that a company like Iberdrola España, a world leader in renewable energies and investment in sustainable mobility, has chosen the Gran Vía Shopping Centre to install the largest electric vehicle charging station in the city of Alicante. This reinforces our commitment to sustainability and care for the environment, and further enhances the services of our facilities".

Montejano also positively highlights that thanks to this collaboration "sustainable mobility in the city is significantly boosted, which reflects the social commitment that Gran Vía has always shown to Alicante throughout its 25 years of existence. This makes the shopping centre a benchmark in sustainable mobility".

Leader in mobility

With more than 6,000 public charging points with a 100% renewable origin guarantee, Iberdrola España's electric mobility network is the most extensive in Spain. In total, between public and private charging points, the company's network has 45,000 chargers.

The mobility plan, launched by the company in 2016, was pioneering in its implementation. Today, its strategy envisages the installation of more than 100,000 charging points by 2025, including public charging points, residential, companies and car parks.

Its public infrastructure design is being developed on highways and corridors as well as in cities and small towns with the aim of having at least one fast charging station every 50 km or less.

The company's goal for 2024 is to provide users with an even more extensive infrastructure with the best range of charging locations and speeds. Its plans for the coming year include installing more than 3,000 additional charging points – bringing the total to over 9,000 by the end of the year, to which should be added the high-power charging network resulting from its alliance with bp. Iberdrola | bp pulse plans to invest €1 billion and deploy 5,000 fast and ultra-fast public charging points by 2025 and 11,700 by 2030 in Spain and Portugal.
