  • In the northern region, i-DE has more than 23,000 kilometres of power lines in the Basque Country, nearly 10,000 in Navarre and more than 5,000 in La Rioja.

I-DE, Iberdrola España’s distribution company, held the 20th Meeting of the Grids Area in the Murcia Region, the Valencian Community, the Basque Country, La Rioja and Navarre. At these events, the company brought together employees to highlight the fundamental role of grids in the electrification of sectors such as transport and industry.

The meetings were attended by the director of i-DE in Valencia and Murcia, Guillermo Raga, the director of i-DE in the northern region, Javier Arriola, the head of the network business in La Rioja, Carlos Sobrino, and the area managers of the provincial sectors, who stressed the importance of the grids as the backbone of the new energy model. They also pointed out that this is the way forward for the transition to a green economy.

The director of i-DE in these regions pointed out that electricity grids "are essential to meet the multitude of connection requests we receive from new industries, electric vehicle charging points, electrolysers for hydrogen production, data centres for artificial intelligence, etc., and we are also seeing a growing interest in electrifying traditional industry".

Arriola highlighted the opportunities and challenges arising from the energy transition "such as self-consumption, energy communities, batteries and the management of bidirectional flows, for which we need to have excellent electricity infrastructures, such as those Iberdrola España has in La Rioja".
