I-DE, Iberdrola España’s distribution company, held the 20th Meeting of the Grids Area in the Murcia Region, the Valencian Community, the Basque Country, La Rioja, Navarre and Castile and León. At these events, the company brought together employees to highlight the fundamental role of grids in the electrification of sectors such as transport and industry.
The meetings were attended by the director of i-DE in Valencia and Murcia, Guillermo Raga; the director of i-DE in the northern region, Javier Arriola; the head of the network business in La Rioja, Carlos Sobrino; the director of i-DE in Castille and León, Óscar Villanueva, and the area managers of the provincial sectors, who stressed the importance of the grids as the backbone of the new energy model. They also pointed out that this is the way forward for the transition to a green economy.
The director of i-DE in these regions pointed out that electricity grids "are essential to meet the multitude of connection requests we receive from new industries, electric vehicle charging points, electrolysers for hydrogen production, data centres for artificial intelligence, etc., and we are also seeing a growing interest in electrifying traditional industry".
Arriola highlighted the opportunities and challenges arising from the energy transition "such as self-consumption, energy communities, batteries and the management of bidirectional flows, for which we need to have excellent electricity infrastructures, such as those Iberdrola España has in La Rioja".
Villanueva stressed the importance of investing more in grids, since they are a fundamental part of the infrastructure to electrify key sectors such as transport and industry. ‘Energy is an area that generates wealth and opportunities, which is why we need to have good electricity grids to provide adequate service,’ Villanueva stressed
