i-DE, Iberdrola España's distribution company, bolsters its infrastructure in La Rioja with the new Paletones substation

Electricity infrastructures are key to meeting the new challenges of the energy transition with the economy’s decarbonisation, distributed generation and quality of supply. The new substation guarantees supply to the new residential areas built in Lardero and will enable service to part of the new developments in the south of Logroño. The total investment was €3.6 M, with a net contribution from Iberdrola's distribution company of more than €2 M.

i-DE, the distribution company of the Iberdrola España, has recently reinforced infrastructures in La Rioja to improve electricity supply quality in the area. This is the new STR Paletones, on the border of the municipalities of Logroño and Lardero.
Iberdrola España, through its distributor i-DE, knows that electricity infrastructures are key to meeting the new challenges of the energy transition to decarbonise the economy, boosting distributed electricity generation and improving supply quality. The total investment was €3.6 M, with a net contribution by i-DE of more than €2 M.
The deployment of resources to undertake actions to reinforce La Rioja’s infrastructures has consisted of:
- New 40-metre overhead line and new medium and high voltage underground lines, 2,300 and 550 metres long, respectively, which provide significant environmental improvements over the previous installations.
- New substation with a 12.5 MVA transformer and 5 medium voltage outlets.
All this will contribute to improving and reinforcing the electricity supply in the capital of La Rioja and Lardero.
A level of service quality above the national average
i-DE, Iberdrola España's distribution company in Spain, closed 2023 in La Rioja with the best historical value for service quality. The company manages more than 4,560 km of low and medium voltage lines and more than 590 km of high and very high voltage lines in the region. It also has 2,542 transformation centers in service and 40 substations.
In recent years it has undertaken an ambitious plan to digitalize its electricity networks, converting its more than 250,000 meters in the community and the infrastructure that supports them into smart meters, incorporating remote management, supervision and automation capabilities.
