Iberdrola Group awards the Basque company Ingeteam €350 million in purchases over the 2020-2024 period

Iberdrola’s Global Procurement Director, Ignacio Sánchez-Galán, visited Ingeteam’s facilities in Beasain (Gipuzkoa) today. He was accompanied by Ingeteam’s CEO, Adolfo Rebollo, and Asís Canales, Iberdrola’s Global Director of Resources and Services.
During the visit, Ignacio Sánchez-Galán highlighted the company’s firm commitment to the Basque Country, as reflected in Iberdrola’s recent orders from Basque suppliers. One such supplier is Ingeteam, based in Zamudio (Bizkaia). The purpose of the visit was to gain first-hand insight into the manufacturing of generators that Ingeteam Indar Machines develops and produces in Beasain for Iberdrola’s Villarino hydroelectric power plant in Castilla y León.
Purchases from the company led by Teresa Madariaga have totalled just over €350 million over the past five years. These contracts are mainly intended for Iberdrola’s renewable energy projects, the digitalisation of networks, and the electrification of the economy.
Regarding renewable projects, notable contracts include the future supply of six motor-generator stators for the Villarino power plant, valued at €22 million, as well as transformation centres for both solar plants and storage for four photovoltaic plants (Almaraz I, Almaraz II, Andévalo, Revilla Vallejera) or a starter for the Valparaíso Hydroelectric Plant, which will enable opportunities in pumped-storage technologies in collaboration with Ingeteam.
Regarding the electrification of the economy, key contracts include the supply of electric vehicle charging equipment and battery storage systems in Spain, the United Kingdom, and Portugal. There are also opportunities in port electrification (OPS) and renewable hydrogen production, where Ingeteam is a leading manufacturer of rectifiers.
These collaborations reflect Iberdrola Group’s longstanding commitment to the Basque Country, where it has spent decades driving industrial growth, improving the competitiveness of local businesses, and fostering quality employment in future-oriented sectors. Iberdrola’s global growth serves as an engine for the internationalisation of hundreds of Basque companies that have consistently demonstrated their ability to provide top-quality and competitive products and services worldwide.
Iberdrola’s tax contribution in 2024 has grown by 15%, reaching nearly €800 million. The company is a key driver of the Basque economy, with an impact of €3.5 billion on the region’s GDP, stemming from investments, procurement, salaries, and tax contributions. Iberdrola supports a total of 30,000 jobs in Euskadi.
