Iberdrola España offers solar communities to more than 30 municipalities in Extremadura
- Almost twenty of them are in the most populated cities.
- This model saves on electricity bills and is environmentally friendly.
Iberdrola España already offers solar communities in 34 municipalities in Extremadura, with a total of 117 installations of this type. Around twenty of these installations are located in the most populated towns in the region, including Cáceres, the first solar city in Spain, demonstrating the expansion of this initiative thanks to the success of this kind of energy self-consumption.
Extremadura is consolidating its position as a leading exponent in the installation of solar communities and in the adoption of energy self-consumption, a form of electricity supply that saves on electricity bills while promoting sustainability and respect for the environment.
Extremadura, a leading exponent of self-consumption installations
An example of the penetration of this type of self-consumption can be seen in the large municipalities of the region. Cáceres, Plasencia, Navalmoral de la Mata, Coria, Miajadas, Talayuela and Jaraíz de la Vera already have solar communities. A similar landscape can be seen in the province of Badajoz, which has 15 large municipalities where you can join these communities: Badajoz, Mérida, Don Benito, Almendralejo, Villanueva de la Serena, Zafra, Montijo, Villafranca de los Barros, Jerez de los Caballeros, Los Santos de Maimona, Guareña and Fuente del Maestre.
Extremadura is a pioneer in Spain with these installations. Cáceres was the first solar city in Spain and Cedillo, the first municipality in the country. This has increased the region's visibility thanks to the various national and international awards given to Extremadura.
Iberdrola España offers solar communities to 80% of the municipalities in Extremadura with more than 6,000 inhabitants. In smaller towns, half of the inhabitants of Extremadura are within the required two-kilometre radius and can already join a solar community.
Clean and easy energy
The solar community system owns a rooftop where solar panels are installed, an unused space that begins to generate 100% clean energy that helps them to reduce their electricity bills. Any neighbours living within less than two kilometres can consume the renewable energy generated without any investment or installation. Families that join the community can leave whenever they like.
Anyone interested in joining a solar community can do so in person at the service points, over the solar communities website or by calling the free phone number 900 92 33 33.
