Oviedo is emerging as one of the Spanish cities with the most electric charging points thanks to Iberdrola España
- The first electric vehicle charging infrastructures, in La Tenderina, La Florida and in the Buenavista neighbourhood, have just been inaugurated by the electricity company together with the Oviedo City Council.
- There will be a total of 40 locations distributed throughout the city with a double point, which will enable the simultaneous charging of up to 80 cars 24 hours a day.
Iberdrola España has launched a wide deployment of charging points for electric vehicles in Oviedo (Asturias).
The installation of 40 public electric vehicle charging points makes the Asturian capital one of the Spanish cities with the most public charging stations and the first in Asturias with such a service. The installation of these charging points, which are gradually coming into operation as the corresponding permits are obtained from Industry, has already enabled electric charging stations to be set up in La Tenderina, La Florida and in the Buenavista neighbourhood. These points allow the simultaneous charging of 80 cars 24 hours a day.
The first electro-lighting stations that are already fully operational are those located on Avenida Torrelavega, on Paseo de La Florida, and in the Buenavista neighbourhood, next to the Calatrava. The Mayor of Oviedo, Alfredo Canteli, together with the Deputy Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Transport, Nacho Cuesta, and the Iberdrola delegate in Asturias, Juan Cifuentes, checked this morning in situ the operation of the recharging point located in Policarpo Herrero street.
Iberdrola España has been supported by the City Council of the Asturian capital to promote the renewable installation. The deployment of electric recharging points totals 2,000 kW of power.
For Mayor Alfredo Canteli, "this is another commitment that we are fulfilling and demonstrates our desire to become a leading city in clean, non-polluting transport. Facilitating the use of electric vehicles for citizens with the deployment of a large network of public electric charging stations or replacing the entire fleet of city buses with zero-emission vehicles is the way to achieve this, and we are making progress in this direction", said the mayor.
For his part, the Iberdrola delegate in Asturias, Juan Cifuentes, pointed out that "Iberdrola is making a significant investment in this type of infrastructure to provide coverage for interurban journeys for users of electric vehicles. The facilities that Oviedo will have are innovative, suitable for any type of electric car, allow batteries to be charged in very short times and, together with the network of charging points that the company has in operation in the rest of Spain, represent a definitive commitment to the decarbonisation of mobility in our country".
The 40 double charging points already installed throughout the city are located in the city centre, La Argañosa, Buenavista, Ciudad Naranco, Colloto, El Cristo, La Corredoria, La Ería, La Florida, Montecerrao, Olivares, Olloniego, Tudela Agüeria, Otero, Pando, Parque de Invierno, Pumarín, Estación de Autobuses, San Claudio, Teatinos-HUCA, Tenderina-Fozaneldi and Ventanielles. Five of the locations have fast charging (50 Kw) and the others have semi-fast charging (22 Kw).
Users of these facilities will recharge the battery of their electric cars with 100% green energy, from renewable generation sources, with a guarantee of origin certificate (GdOs). In addition, the charging points will be located on the Iberdrola Public Charging App.
