Iberdrola has implemented a Procedure to protect customers in a situation of vulnerability with the aim of ensuring energy supply for economically disadvantaged citizens. This includes energy supply under the social bonus External link, opens in new window., for pensioners or for families in which all members of the family unit are unemployed. In 2022, more than 1.6 million customers in Spain are covered by the electric social bonus.

Prior to being included in the regulation the concept of social bonus, Iberdrola promoted the signing of agreements with various public institutions and NGO, in line with its aim of protecting customers who are unable to pay their gas and electricity bills.

Iberdrola currently has almost 570,000 customers benefiting from this measure, which represents almost 47% of the total number of beneficiaries in Spain. In the last year, there has been a 5 % increase in the number of applicants for the social bono, which allows customers to enjoy a discount on their electricity bill that is paid by the companies.

Committed to protecting customers in vulnerable situations, Iberdrola facilitates access to this aid mechanism throughout the country for vulnerable people through its benchmark marketer, Curenegía ComercializadorExternal link, opens in new window. .

Information and application requirements are available on the website for three categories of beneficiaries: "vulnerable consumer", "severe vulnerable consumer" or "vulnerable consumer at risk of social exclusion" according to the legal criteria and conditions that must be met in each category.

AGREEMENTS SIGNED

The agreements signed cover 100% of Iberdrola's domestic customers who may find themselves in a situation of vulnerability.

These initiatives are in line with the spirit of the General Sustainable Development Policy, whereby Iberdrola undertakes to “serve economically disadvantaged customers or people in any other situation of vulnerability by establishing specific protection procedures and collaborating, in accordance with the policies established by the competent Public Administrations in each case, to facilitate ongoing access to electricity and gas supply”.
