Jumsal connects to the sun with the support of Iberdrola España

  •  The salt company of Jumilla agrees with the company the installation of photovoltaic self-consumption systems of 5 MW (megawatts) of power.
  • The infrastructure will generate over 7,400 megawatt hours of renewable energy per year and will mean a saving of more than 45% in regular consumption for the salt company

Jumsal connects to the sun with Iberdrola España. Both companies continue with their commitment to sustainability and the fight against climate change, and they have also agreed to implement two solar self-consumption infrastructures at the salt company's facilities.

The photovoltaic systems are made up of approximately 9,693 solar modules that will have a total power of 5 MW (megawatts) and will generate more than 7,400 megawatt hours each year – the equivalent to the consumption of almost 2,300 homes, and will represent a saving of more than 45% in terms of annual energy consumption.

Two self-consumption systems have been installed: one on the roofs of the company's warehouses, with approximately 1 MW of power; and the other, with 4 MW, on the adjoining land.

This sustainable initiative will prevent emissions into the atmosphere amounting to more than 1,580 tonnes of CO2 annually, and therefore will contribute to increasing the efficiency and competitiveness of the salt plant, as well as generating significant environmental benefits.

The director general of Jumsal, Andrés Jerez, reiterated the company's commitment to sustainability and respect for the natural area where it is located: Parque Regional Sierra del Carche (Sierra del Carche Regional Park).

The company's sales representative of Iberdrola España in the Region of Murcia, Joaquín Longares, thanked "Jumsal confidence in the company to carry out this project that will allow them to make significant savings on their electricity bill by obtaining their own energy with self-consumption facilities".

The photovoltaic system will have state-of-the-art solar modules, as well as approximately fifty sensorised and connected high-performance inverters that will allow the installation to be monitored via a mobile app and to know real-time information on the energy produced and consumed.

Boosting self-consumption

As part of its commitment to accelerating the energy transition and developing new products to improve efficiency and energy savings, Iberdrola España leads the photovoltaic self-consumption market in Spain, managing 40% of the country's self-consumption customers.

In 2015, Iberdrola España became the first company in its sector to integrate self-consumption solutions into its range of services. In addition, since 2019, the company has also been offering collective self-consumption solutions. Iberdrola España maintains its commitment to continue being a driver, in the coming years, of this technology which, in addition to reducing the energy bill, protects from potential variations in energy prices, enables its use even at night (with the installation of a battery storage system) and allows the generation of energy free of CO2 emissions.

Iberdrola España has consolidated its position as the benchmark company and, through Smart Solar, the company offers a solution for all types of customers, both for companies and individuals – with or without a roof to install solar panels.

Through this project, included in its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, Jumsal achieves an important energy autonomy that will allow it to better monitor its costs, improve its position in the market with high-quality products and be more eco-friendly.
