Iberdrola | bp pulse put into operation the first large ultra-fast charging station for electric vehicles in Burgos, located in the Abadesa hotel and restaurant complex, owned by Villarce, in Villagonzalo Pedernales, a strategic enclave for trips to the north of the Iberian Peninsula. The new installation has eight charging points (two of 350 kW and six of 150 kW), enabling eight vehicles to be charged simultaneously. In a full day at full capacity, this station could serve over 700 vehicles.
This hub is part of Iberdrola España | bp pulse collaboration agreement with the car manufacturer Porsche for the deployment of ultra-fast charging in Spain and Portugal, and its charging points allow a range of up to 400 kilometres to be achieved in just a few minutes .
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Villagonzalo Pedernales’ mayoress, Purificación Ortega; Junta de Castilla y León’ delegate in Burgos, Roberto Saiz; the CEO of Villarce group, Óscar de la Cal; Iberdrola España’s delegate in Castilla y León, Miguel Calvo; the Head of Charging Network & Smart Mobility of Porche Ibérica, Benjamin Bartsch; and the General Manager of Iberdrola | bp pulse, Pablo Pirles, who explained how the infrastructure works and presented Iberdrola | bp pulse electric charging network.
With this new facility, Iberdrola | bp pulse expands its presence in Castilla y León, where it already has a total of 54 charging points of over 100 kW in operation. Its deployment of fast and ultra-fast power infrastructure continues to grow with projects in different municipalities in the region on high-capacity roads, service stations and urban environments.
The regional delegate of Junta de Castilla y León in Burgos, Roberto Saiz, stressed that "infrastructures like this one contribute to improving people's lives, providing the necessary resources for more efficient transport".
The CEO of Iberdrola | bp pulse, Pablo Pirles, said that, with the launch of this hub, "we are reinforcing our commitment to moving towards sustainable mobility by significantly expanding the network of ultra-fast charging stations. This effort ensures that essential infrastructure is accessible in key areas, such as the recently established one in Burgos, a strategic enclave for linking north and centre of the peninsula. Our goal is to facilitate an optimised user experience for existing EV (electric vehicle) owners and provide a strong incentive for those considering the transition."
In turn, this inauguration is part of Iberdrola España’s Strategic Plan – the result of Iberdrola España and bp pulse alliance, which began operations on 1 December. Its objective is to promote access for all citizens to a fast and ultra-fast charging infrastructure and thus contribute to eliminating one of the main barriers to the definitive take-off of electric vehicles. To this end, the company plans to invest €1 billion and deploy 5,000 fast and ultra-fast public charging points by 2025, and 11,700 by 2030. All of them powered by 100% renewable energy through use of guarantee of origin certificates.
