Iberdrola España's Activity Has a Significant Socio-Economic Impact and Contributes to the Development of 15 Spanish Regions
Iberdrola, the group that controls Iberdrola España, continues to be committed to Spain's economic development. So much so that, in 2023, the Company made purchases worth millions of euros with thousands of Spanish suppliers in 15 of the country's regions, thus contributing as an important driver of the Spanish economy. Below is a breakdown of the key points of Iberdrola's economic activity in each Spanish region.
Madrid's business activity has a socio-economic impact of nearly €5 billion
The Company’s socio-economic impact in Madrid was close to €5 billion last year, including investments, salaries, tax contributions and payments to suppliers. Iberdrola made purchases and contracted services from more than 1,200 companies in Madrid for over €4 billion. In addition, in Madrid, i-DE, Iberdrola España's distribution company, manages more than 31,000 km of low and medium voltage lines and close to 1,400 km of high and very high voltage lines, and has close to 16,000 transformer stations in service and 116 substations. As a result, the Company maintains a level of service quality in the region that is above the national average.
Iberdrola supports 30,000 jobs in the Basque Country and contributes €3.5 billion a year to the Basque Country's GDP
Iberdrola once again surpassed its record in socio-economic contribution to the Basque Country, with an impact on the Basque Country's GDP of €3.5 billion in investments, purchases, salaries and tax contributions. This amount represents 3.7% of Basque GDP for the year.
Furthermore, the Company made purchases from 500 suppliers in the Basque Country and contributed nearly €1.5 billion to the Basque Treasury – 700 million of which was a direct contribution.
Iberdrola contributes over €875 million to Castilla y León in 2023
The Company reaffirmed its commitment to Castilla y León with a total economic impact of over €875 million by 2023. Iberdrola, the group that controls Iberdrola España, made purchases from 425 suppliers in Castilla y León for more than €230 million.
Likewise, in Castilla y León, i-DE, Iberdrola España's distribution company, closed last year reaching the best year-end value in its history in terms of service quality. The Company manages over 50,000 kilometres of power lines and has 15,754 transformer stations in service and 249 substations. In addition, Iberdrola España's distribution company reached 12,000 self-consumption facilities connected to its electricity grid in Castilla y León in 2023, which contributed to the system some 140 MW of green generation fully integrated into the low- and medium-voltage grids.
Iberdrola contributes €875 million to the Valencia region
The electricity company reaffirmed its commitment to the Valencia region with a total economic impact of €875 million last year. Iberdrola, the group that controls Iberdrola España, made purchases from more than 420 suppliers in the region worth over €185 million.
In the Valencia region, i-DE, Iberdrola España's distribution company, closed last year reaching the best year-end value in its history in terms of service quality. The Company manages more than 68,000 kilometres of power lines and has 25,000 transformer stations in service and nearly 180 substations. Iberdrola España's distribution company also exceeded 71,000 self-consumption facilities connected to its electricity grid in the region in 2023, which contributed to the system some 550 new megawatts (MW) of green generation fully integrated into the low- and medium-voltage grids.
Iberdrola contributes nearly €800 million to Andalusia
As one of Iberdrola's major commitments, Iberdrola contributes nearly €800 million for the Company's activity in Andalusia in 2023, which is 11% more than in the same period of the previous year. Iberdrola has almost 230 suppliers in Andalusia and made purchases worth €170 million, including companies such as Andaluza de Montajes Eléctricos, Melesur, Cuadros Eléctricos Nazarenos and Elmya, among others.
Iberdrola contributes over €750 million to Castilla-La Mancha
The electricity company reaffirmed its commitment to Castilla-La Mancha with a total economic impact of €750 million last year. Iberdrola, the group that controls Iberdrola España, made purchases from 260 suppliers in the region for around €262 million.
In Castilla-La Mancha, i-DE, Iberdrola España's distribution company, manages more than 26,000 km of low- and medium-voltage lines and over 2,600 km of high- and very high-voltage lines. It also has around 9,700 transformer stations in service and 76 substations. The Company maintains a level of service quality in the region that is above the national average.
Iberdrola's activity brings €700 million to Catalonia
The electricity company reaffirmed its commitment to Catalonia with a total economic impact of €700 million last year. Iberdrola made purchases from more than 440 Catalan suppliers worth over €190 million.
The Company is promoting public charging infrastructure in Catalonia – where Iberdrola has more than 400 charging stations powered by renewable energy to decarbonise transport.
Iberdrola contributes over €530 million to Extremadura
Iberdrola's economic impact in Extremadura exceeded €530 million last year, including investments, salaries, tax contributions and payments to suppliers. In addition, Iberdrola made purchases in 2023 from a total of 113 suppliers in the region.
In Extremadura, i-DE, Iberdrola España's distribution company, manages more than 10,600 km of low- and medium-voltage lines and more than 2,000 km of high- and very high-voltage lines. It also has 3,467 transformer stations in service and 65 substations.
Iberdrola raised its contribution in Asturias to nearly €500 million
Iberdrola contributed €500 in Asturias for the Company's activity in the region in 2023 – which is 68% more than in the same period of the previous year – including investments, salaries, tax contributions and payments to suppliers. Iberdrola has some 98 suppliers in Asturias and made purchases worth over €420 million.
Iberdrola's activity in Galicia has a socio-economic impact of over €410 million
The Company’s socio-economic impact in Galicia reached €411 million last year, 11.5% higher than in 2022, including investments, salaries, tax contributions and payments to suppliers. The electricity company chaired by Galán made purchases and contracted services from 241 Galician suppliers for €183 million in 2023.
Iberdrola has 2,217 MW of power in Galicia, of which 2,208 MW are renewables (mainly thanks to 1,582 MW of hydroelectric capacity and 626 MW of onshore wind). It is present in the four provinces of the region: Ourense (with 1,690 MW in 25 facilities), Lugo (288 MW and 9 facilities), Pontevedra (130 MW and 3 facilities), and A Coruña (with 99 MW and also 3 facilities).
Iberdrola contributed €320 million to Murcia in 2023
The electricity company reaffirmed its commitment to the Region of Murcia with a total economic impact of €320 million last year. Iberdrola, the group that controls Iberdrola España, made purchases from more than 160 suppliers in the region worth over €65 million.
In Murcia, i-DE, Iberdrola España's distribution company, closed last year reaching the best year-end value in its history in terms of service quality. The Company manages nearly 30,000 kilometres of power lines and has 9,700 transformer stations in service and more than 70 substations.
Iberdrola contributes over €260 million to Navarra
Iberdrola's commitment to Navarra is evidenced by the over €260 million economic impact of the Company's activity in this region in 2023, including investments, salaries, tax contributions and payments to suppliers. Iberdrola has some 88 suppliers in this region and made purchases worth €180 million.
In Navarre, i-DE, the distribution company of Iberdrola España, manages more than 8,200 km of low- and medium-voltage lines and more than 1,740 km of high- and very-high voltage lines. The Company also has 3,648 transformer stations in service and 87 substations.
Iberdrola's activity cotributes €195 million to Aragón
The electricity company reaffirmed its commitment to Aragon with a total economic impact of €195 million last year. Iberdrola, the group that controls Iberdrola España, made purchases from some 45 suppliers in the region worth over €44 million.
The Company has more than 400 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy installed in Aragon, most of them wind, and continues with the processing of approximately 500 solar photovoltaic MW in the region with the Escatrón, Fuendetodos and Peñaflor projects.
Iberdrola's activity in the Canary Islands has a socio-economic impact of €126 million
The Company’s socio-economic impact in the Canary Islands was close to €126 million last year, including investments, salaries, tax contribution and payments to suppliers – an increase of 38% compared to the same period last year.
In this region, the Company received authorisations for two wind farms on the island of Tenerife – one in Granadilla de Abona and the other in Arico. In addition, in 2023 Iberdrola energised its Llanos Pelaos III photovoltaic plant, with 7 MW, which will supply clean energy to more than 4,000 homes. Furthermore, this plant received the Sustainability Seal from the Spanish Solar Photovoltaic Association (UNEF) for all the environmental measures undertaken in the project.
Iberdrola contributes over €85 million to Cantabria
In 2023, Iberdrola had an economic impact in Cantabria of over €85 million, as a result of the Company's activity in the region. This includes investments, salaries, tax contributions and payments to suppliers. Iberdrola has around 15 suppliers in the region and made purchases worth €37 million.
Iberdrola contributes over €63 million to La Rioja
The Company is strengthening its commitment to La Rioja, as evidenced by its economic impact of over €63 million in the region in 2023, including investments, salaries, tax contributions and payments to suppliers. Iberdrola has some 62 suppliers in the region and made purchases worth €12 million.
In La Rioja, i-DE, Iberdrola España's distribution company, manages more than 4,560 km of low- and medium-voltage lines and more than 590 km of high- and very-high voltage lines. i-DE also has 2,542 transformer stations in service and 40 substations. The Company maintains a level of service quality in the region above the national average, with the best year-end value in its history.
