Iberdrola España sponsors the Almagro International Festival of Classical Theatre
- The space in the former university will be renamed Espacio Áurea Iberdrola.
- This new support for the performing arts joins the Iberdrola Green Theatres initiative in Madrid.
Iberdrola España and the Almagro International Classical Theatre Festival have signed a collaboration agreement by which the electricity company becomes a sponsor of this important cultural event which, in its 47th edition, will once again turn the town of Ciudad Real into the spotlight of the Spanish Golden Age.
As part of this commitment, this year's festival the traditional theatre space of the former university will be renamed "Espacio Áurea Iberdrola".
The new sponsorship of the leading European electricity company was introduced on the stage of the famous Corral de Comedias by Iberdrola's Head of sponsorship Laura Gil, together with the Festival's Director Irene Pardo. They both expressed their satisfaction with this new boost to culture in our country.
Laura Gil explained that, just as the Golden Age was a historical period in which not only Spanish art and literature flourished − but also science and medicine experienced a great boost that had a positive impact on the society of the time − this centenary company makes a commitment to its time.
The Company's social dividend is tangible in the territories where it is located as well as in the country as a whole through the promotion of talent, job creation, investment in innovation and, in short, through the payment of taxes.
Iberdrola España's Green Theatres
This year, the company's support for the performing arts is also present in the Iberdrola España Green Theatres project, through which it supplies clean energy to 16 of the most emblematic theatres in the Spanish capital, associating its commitment to environmental sustainability and decarbonisation with the promotion of culture.

Since 2009, a total of 56 unique buildings have been lit up across Spain thanks to Iberdrola España. These projects involved an investment of over €5 million, including the lighting of the basilica of Real Monasterio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial (Madrid), the monastery of Yuso (La Rioja), the façade of San Felipe Neri oratory in Cádiz, the interior of the collegiate church of Toro in Zamora, the Roman bridge of Alcántara (Cáceres), the Holy Chalice Chapel in the Cathedral of Valencia, and the exterior of the Cathedral of Ávila.
Iberdrola España with heritage and culture in Castile-La Mancha
In Castilla-La Mancha, Fundación Iberdrola is promoting lighting projects worth more than €600,000. In Toledo, we can highlight the work on the Army Museum, the emblematic Alcázar building, the mosque of Cristo de la Luz, and the lighting of the Roman bridge in Talavera de la Reina. In Cuenca, the façade of the impressive monastery of Uclés and the bridge of San Antón; in Ciudad Real, the interior of the church of Valdepeñas and the historic mills of Campo de Criptana; and in Guadalajara, the cathedral of Sigüenza and the Henares bridge, among others.
Iberdrola España contributes decisively to the promotion and dissemination of art and culture in Spain, but it is also committed to equality. In this regard, the Company supports 35 Spanish federations − reaching 800,000 federated women in Spain − and 160 women's competitions.
A call to action to build a better future, working closely with public and private institutions, both technically and financially, and promoting projects of artistic, cultural and egalitarian relevance throughout the territory.
With Iberdrola España's support for the Almagro International Classical Theatre Festival, the Company aims to be present at the epicentre of theatrical culture throughout the month of July. Culture is undoubtedly an essential tool for building a free and egalitarian society.
