  • Iberdrola España's distribution company has completed work on a new infrastructure which will supply electricity to the Burgos districts of Cortes, Villayuda, El Camping and La Cartuja by burying almost a kilometre of overhead line and taking out 15 pylons.
  • This intervention, with an investment of 315,000 euros, will significantly improve the quality of the electricity supply in an increasingly green environment.

i-DE, Iberdrola España's distribution company, is making progress in its commitment to improve the quality of service for its customers and to become greener with the commissioning of a new infrastructure that will supply electricity to the Burgos districts of Cortes, Villayuda, El Camping and La Cartuja by burying almost one kilometre of overhead line and taking out 15 towers and pylons.

The new electricity distribution installations, with an investment of 315,000 euros, are at the forefront of modernity and safety, are capable of meeting the city's growing electricity supply needs and contribute to energy savings and a reduction in the carbon footprint. Their underground construction also reduces the environmental impact in one of the Burgos residents’ most loved and visited areas.

Work lasted four months and were recently concluded with the removal of the supports and conductors of the old overhead line as well as the rest of the infrastructure related to the transformation of electricity. The material will be recycled at a centre set up for iron and steel recovery, in line with the Iberdrola group's commitment to a sustainable energy model aligned with the circular economy to maximise its use.

With this intervention, 137 metres of underground network have been brought into service from Avenida del Arlanzón to the new remote-controlled switching centre at Fuente Prior, crossing the Capiscol bridge. In addition, a new 656-metre underground line was laid to connect a new sectioning centre with the transformer station located in the area around the Fuentes Blancas campsite as well as a new 316-metre section of underground network to the area of the cyclo-cross circuit.

A total of 170 metres of overhead line that crossed the Arlanzón river have been taken down, as well as the supports for the old overhead line that served the campsite. A local artist painted a mural on the walls of the new sectioning centre with some of the local native fauna’s most representative animals.

Burgos Green Belt

Fuente Prior is located in the Parque de Fuentes Blancas which lies to the east of the city on the banks of the river Arlanzón. It is about 6 kilometres from the centre, an hour and a half's walk along the river. It is also easily accessible by bike following the lane that runs parallel to the water.

Fuentes Blancas is part of the Burgos Green Belt; Burgos residents’ love it and frequent it often, and is the place where the day of the Burgalés Ausente is celebrated, an event that closes the festivities of St. Peter and St. Paul. There are also numerous fountains in the area: the Prior fountain, the Salud fountain and the Castaños fountain.

It has a wetland covering more than 30 hectares, an ideal place for bird watching. There is also an artificial beach, a large children's play area, a bike path and a campsite with a swimming pool. All of this makes Fuentes Blancas an ideal place to spend the day or go for a walk at any time of the year.
