Iberdrola España starts up three solar communities in Linares that will cut 600 families’ electricity bills
- They will generate 455 MWh of energy annually and cut the electric bills of families who will be able to access renewable self-consumption without making any type of investment.
Iberdrola España has started up three solar communities in Linares, Jaén. These installations will enable residents living within a radius of two kilometres to save on their electricity bills without the need to install or invest anything and with guaranteed savings by consuming the 100% renewable energy produced locally. Some 600 families will be able to benefit.
A total of 675 panels have been installed, with a total installed power of 310 kW between the three solar communities. The annual energy generated is expected to hit 455 MWh/year and is 100% sustainable and local energy, which will prevent the emission of 2,510 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere over the next 30 years, equivalent to planting 125,000 trees.
"Iberdrola España invests in Linares in innovation in energy solutions, sustainability and commitment to the areas where we do business by making self-consumption available to all residents. It is also a unique opportunity to enjoy local self-consumption, without the need for investment and enjoying savings from day one", says Borja Cañas Rodríguez-Rubio, Iberdrola España's Sales Representative in Andalusia.
What’s a solar community and how does it work?
Iberdrola España's solar communities are based on collective self-consumption and consist of two main actors: the owner of the roof who rents out unused space to place solar panels and generate 100% renewable energy to help him/her save on his/her electricity bill; and the neighbours, who must be within a radius of 2 km of the roof, who can consume clean, local energy without any investment, installation or permanence needed through a subscription model, just like with any digital platform. In this case, six hundred families will be able to save on their electricity bills by accessing self-consumption without the need for any installations on their homes.
