presentación marcha

With the sponsorship of Iberdrola España, the Spanish Cancer Association (AECC) in Valladolid presents the 13th Valladolid Walk Against Cancer, where Iberdrola España will once again be the main sponsor, to be held on Sunday 27 October, as announced this Thursday at city hall. Given the event’s precedents, it is expected to once again be the largest march in Spain.

The presentation was attended by the city mayor, Jesús Julio Carnero, the president of the Association in Valladolid, Artemio Domínguez, and the Iberdrola España representative in Castilla y León, Miguel Calvo

The money raised will go towards the Association's cancer research projects in Valladolid, which have a budget of 600,000 euros, including the seven predoctoral grants and the research grant for Dr. Nuria Benavent, who is carrying out a study on childhood and young adult cancer.

This year, the Spanish Cancer Association in Valladolid has earmarked more than 600,000 euros to cancer research projects.

Iberdrola España is once again the main sponsor of the march

The Valladolid Walk Against Cancer has the special support of Iberdrola España as the main collaborator for the eighth consecutive year. This is part of the agreement between both organisations to work both in research to improve the diagnosis and treatment of cancer as well as to raise awareness about the fight against the disease.

Iberdrola España and the Spanish Cancer Association have a long-standing relationship that was consolidated in 2015 by signing an agreement aimed at cancer research. The continued commitment of the company and its customers has made Iberdrola España the Association’s main private collaborator.

Among the most innovative initiatives developed within the framework of this agreement is Juntos contra el cáncer (Together Against Cancer), a project through which Iberdrola España offers its customers the possibility of working with the association, pledging to double the amount they donate monthly through their electricity or gas bill.

Organisation of this edition

The start, at 10:30 a.m., will be from the tracks at the Paseo del Campo Grande and the 5 kilometre route can be run or walked. The finish line will be at the end of the bus lane on Recoletos. Participants should gather at the starting line towards the Plaza de Zorrilla and the Paseo del Príncipe del Campo Grande.

Participants who are going to run the race will be placed in the first line. The second starting line (at the Tourism Office) will be for those who are walking. For safety reasons, skates, scooters and bicycles will not be allowed to take part.

This is a non-competitive sporting and recreational event and is open to all those who wish to work with the Spanish Cancer Association.

The race numbers will be given out with the registration. The first 40,000 registrants will receive a T-shirt with a new design (limited edition and no changes allowed). The rest of the participants will receive another gift (a buff neck warmer or a bandana for their dog).

In combination with each participant's number, a prize draw will be held with gifts donated by collaborating companies. The list of the winning numbers will be published on Sunday 27 on the website valladolidenmarchaconchacontraelcancer.org, El Norte de Castilla, El Mundo Valladolid and on the website of El Día de Valladolid. The prizes will be available for pick up at the Association's headquarters from Monday 28 October for one month.

This edition will be accompanied by music along the route thanks to the drum corps Sambulé, Bloco Feroz and Conclave, who will liven up the route at the main squares along the march.

A new feature will be the live show by the Valladolid band Los Pichas, who will be playing their music starting at 12:30 p.m. on the stage next to the fountain in the Plaza de Zorrilla.

After the walk, participants can download photos from the website www.persigueme.es, and 100% of proceeds can be be donated to the Association.

Free buses from several municipalities

The Provincial Council of Valladolid, in collaboration with the local branches of the Spanish Cancer Association, will provide free rides to the walk with a total of 17 buses that will bring in participants from 37 towns in the province. In addition, local councils from other municipalities closer to the city will also provide buses.

The Haemotherapy and Blood Donation Centre of Castilla y León will have a mobile unit on Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to donate blood and provide information on how to become a bone marrow donor.
