Iberdrola España has developed a solar community in the municipality of Montehermoso, Cáceres, which will allow around 174 families to reduce their electricity bills and access renewable self-consumption, without the need for their own installation or any kind of investment.

The Montehermoso installation (on the roof of a local wholesale business) has 158 panels with a total power of 87.2 kWp that will be used for the self-consumption of the first 174 families that sign up. All you have  do is be within a radius of two kilometres from the solar community and an Iberdrola España customer.

The annual energy generated is expected to reach 134 MWh, and is 100% sustainable local energy, which will prevent the emission of 27 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere, equivalent to planting around 1,350 trees. For Iberdrola España, self-consumption solutions are a way of promoting sustainability while saving on electricity bills.

How to connect in Montehermoso

Anyone interested in joining the solar communities can get information from their nearest service point, from the Iberdrola España Solar Communities’ website or by calling the free telephone number 900 92 33 33. A temporary Extremarketing service point will also be set up in town to inform residents on the 4, 5 and 6 of November at the Ruano Restaurant (Plaza de la Constitución 10-12 in Montehermoso), in the mornings and afternoons. There will be breakfast for those interested and a gift for our first customers.

What's a solar community and how does it work?

Iberdrola España's solar communities are based on collective self-consumption and consist of two main actors. First, there are the owners of the rooftop who offers their unused space to install solar panels and generate 100% renewable energy to help them save on their electricity bill (in this case a wholesale business in Montehermoso).

Then, there are the neighbours who must be within a radius of 2 km of that roof and who take advantage of the surplus generation of the companies’ panels so they can consume clean and local energy without any type of investment, installation or permanence through a subscription model, just like you would with any digital platform. In this case, it will allow 174 families in Montehermoso to access solar energy without any installations on their homes.

More than 15,000 families in Extremadura

In Extremadura, 15,000 families can now access self-consumption thanks to the solar communities installed by Iberdrola España in different parts of the region.

In addition to Montehermoso, in the province of Cáceres, solar communities have already been set up in the capital of Cáceres, Plasencia, Navalmoral, Miajadas and Coria, among others. In Badajoz, in addition to the capital, they are in Almendralejo, Don Benito, Villanueva de la Serena and Mérida, among others.
