Iberdrola España and ANAFRIC sign agreement to promote electrification and decarbonisation
- With this agreement, both organisations will work together towards more efficient management of energy used by association members to increase their competitiveness.
- The collaboration will include electricity supply, support for the electrification of thermal processes with heat pumps, installation of photovoltaics for self-consumption, electric mobility projects and the purchase of energy saving certificates.
Iberdrola and ANAFRIC, the Spanish Meat Business Association, have signed an agreement to promote the electrification and decarbonizationof the associated companies, facilitating the company's experience throughout the value chain and seeking synergies to optimise energy use along the main energy-consuming processes of members.
The agreement, which was signed at ANAFRIC's headquarters in Barcelona by its president, José Friguls, and Iberdrola España's sales representative in Catalonia, Juan Miguel Bailón, enables company to offer the association a wide range of integrated solutions it has to achieve a significant reduction in energy consumption and emissions.
For Juan Miguel Bailón, this agreement with ANAFRIC "is another part of Iberdrola's commitment to lead the energy transition, improving the competitiveness of our customers, a challenge we took on 20 years ago and which has made us a world leader in renewable energies. We are committed to the electrification of the economy, the promotion of green energy and technological innovation to guarantee a more sustainable future".
José Friguls highlighted the importance this agreement because it represents a decisive step forward in the sustainability of the meat sector. "At ANAFRIC we are fully committed to reducing the environmental impact of our activities, and this collaboration will allow us to provide our member companies with innovative and efficient solutions that not only optimise energy consumption but also sharpen our competitiveness".
For the president of ANAFRIC, "electrification and decarbonisation are fundamental pillars to face the challenges of climate change, and at our association we want to lead this process with initiatives that benefit both the industry and society as a whole. We thank Iberdrola for its support and experience, which will undoubtedly be key to driving this change and strengthening the sector's commitment to a more sustainable and responsible future".
Decarbonising industry through electrification is essential to tackle climate change, use energy more efficiently and foster innovation, improving customers' bottom lines.
In addition, electrification makes more efficient use of energy while enabling the implementation of more advanced control and monitoring technologies, resulting in more accurate and efficient management of industrial processes.
Increased efficiency and competitiveness
With this agreement, both organisations will work together in the search for maximum efficiency in electricity supply, both technically and economically, addressing the different existing modalities that best suit each industry. Members have been offered the possibility of carrying out energy audits, as well as all of Iberdrola España's technical knowledge to install photovoltaic self-consumption projects, individually or collectively, and also those related to the decarbonisation of industrial heating and cooling processes.
In the field of electric mobility, Iberdrola offers ANAFRIC members a wide range of possibilities, including installing charging points for both public and private use, as well as electrifying heavy transport, an area in which the company is leading pioneering projects already in operation.
Another of the highlights of the agreement is the energy savings certificates, where Iberdrola España makes a direct payment to members for the energy savings generated, which serves to promote the return on investments. The company also has its own Technical Office that it makes available to members to evaluate energy savings and do any necessary paperwork. For an aerothermal system, for instance, a customer can benefit from a direct rebate of up to 20% on the initial investment, as well as benefiting from the consequent energy savings.
And for those companies that require it, Iberdrola España provides the necessary information on the possibility of having green hydrogen projects. This is an area in which the company has already had installations in operation for years, such as the one set up with Fertiberia in Puertollano and the hydrogen plant in Barcelona's customs-free zone, which provides service to city buses.
The energy transition and independence from fossil fuels is a priority in society and the business fabric has a fundamental role to play in the coming years to meet the ambitious objectives committed to, both at national, European and international level.
