Iberdrola España connects Supercash to the sun

  • The hospitality distribution company signs a deal with the company to install six 100 KW photovoltaic self-consumption infrastructures.
  • The infrastructure will generate more than 645 megawatt hours of renewable energy annually and means the company will consume 20-25% less.

Supercash, the Asturian distribution company, connects to the sun with Iberdrola España. Both companies continue with their commitment to sustainability and the fight against climate change and have agreed to implement 6 solar self-consumption infrastructures at facilities in Asturias, Leon and Valladolid.

The photovoltaic systems consist of 6 infrastructures with approximately 1,200 solar modules, which will have a total capacity of more than 600 kWp and will generate more than 645 megawatt hours a year, equivalent to the consumption of almost 140 homes, and will use more than 20% less annually.
Six self-consumption sites have been installed on the roofs of the company's buildings, with a capacity  of approximately 100 kW.

This sustainable initiative will prevent the emission of more than 128 tonnes of CO2 per year into the atmosphere, contributing to the plants' efficiency and competitiveness while generating significant environmental benefits.

The general manager of Supercash, Francisco Javier González Fidalgo, reiterated the savings in energy consumption, indicating that installing the solar panels is part of the decarbonisation strategy and that the investment can be amortised over 6-7 years.

Borja Cancela, Iberdrola España's sales representative in Asturias, thanked "Supercash for trusting the company to carry out this project, which will allow them to see significant savings on their electricity bills by producing their own energy through self-consumption installations".

The photovoltaic system has state-of-the-art solar modules, as well as approximately 6 sensorised and connected high-performance inverters to monitor the installation through a mobile application and to know in real time how much energy is produced and consumed.

Additionally, the locations in Asturias (Gijon, Oviedo and Aviles) together with the corresponding locations in Leon and Valladolid will have public electric chargers. There will be a total of 16 electrified parking spaces, distributed as follows: 4 in the locations of Aviles, Leon and Valladolid and 2 in the locations in Gijon and Oviedo.

Promotion of self-consumption

As part of its commitment to accelerating the energy transition and developing new products to improve energy efficiency and savings, Iberdrola España leads the photovoltaic self-consumption market in Spain, managing 40% of the country's self-consumption customers.

In 2015, the company became the first company in its industry to integrate self-consumption solutions into its range of services, and since 2019 it has also been offering collective self-consumption solutions. Iberdrola España remains committed to continuing to be a driving force in the coming years for this technology which, in addition to reducing energy bills, protects against potential variations in energy prices, enables use even at night (with the installation of a battery storage system) and allows users to generate energy free of CO2 emissions.

The company has established itself as the benchmark and through Smart Solar offers a solution for every type of customer, both for companies and individuals, whether or not they have a roof to install solar panels on.

With this project, Supercash achieves an important energy autonomy included in its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy that will allow it to better control its costs, improve its market position with high quality and more environmentally friendly products.

The most extensive network in Spain

With more than 8,000 points in operation, Iberdrola España's public charging network is the most extensive in the country. Its public infrastructure design is developed both on highways and corridors and in cities and towns with the goal of having at least one fast charging station every 50 km.

The mobility plan launched by the company in 2016 was pioneering in its implementation. Today, its strategy envisages the installation of more than 100,000 charging points by 2025, including public, residential, company and car park charging points.

The company also has 45,000 private recharging points between its company network and its domestic network, where Iberdrola España has the most competitive tariff in the sector: 1,000 km can be covered for €5.

Iberdrola España has begun to incorporate bank card payment in its public recharging network.  The company, which is making a gradual transition and has already incorporated this mode of payment in 40% of its more than 8,000 chargers, will complete installation throughout its network before next summer.

In this way, Iberdrola España makes it easier to use its charging points, all of which use 100% green energy from renewable sources with a guarantee of origin certificate (GdOs). This action is another commitment by the company to promote electric mobility, the only emissions-free option that also makes progress in energy independence.

Users of the Iberdrola España network can recharge using the Iberdrola España Public Recharge App. The most highly valued in the industry, this app has a simple registration process and allows the user to check on the status of chargers in real time, reserve the one they want to use or plan their trip by obtaining information on the chargers where they need to stop on the way.
