Soria to have Iberdrola España's first solar community
- The new installation, the 9th to be marketed by the company in Castilla and León, will be located on the roof of the Carrocerías Denver company and will prevent the release of around 790 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere over the next 30 years
- In addition to reducing the cost of this garage’s electricity bills, residents within a radius of 2 kilometres will be able to benefit from the advantages of renewable self-consumption, without the need for their own infrastructure or investment
- This initiative reflects both entities’ commitment to sustainability and the energy transition

Iberdrola España and Carrocerías Denver, S.L. have joined forces to promote a pioneering solar community in the province of Soria in their commitment to sustainability and the energy transition.
The new installation, the first to be marketed by Iberdrola España in the province and the 9th in Castilla and León will be located on the roof of this mechanic’s garage in Ólvega and will prevent the release of around 790 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere over the next 30 years.
In addition to cutting the company's electricity bill, residents within a radius of 2 kilometres will be able to benefit from the advantages of renewable self-consumption without the need for their own infrastructure or investment.
This form of community self-consumption allows users to share the 100% renewable energy generated from a single photovoltaic installation near their homes, in this case on the roof of the garage.
Iberdrola España is investing in this installation which will consist of 207 solar panels, the total capacity of which will exceed 95 kilowatts (kW), enough to produce around 143 megawatt hours (MWh) per year.
Around 180 families will be able to participate in this solar community and save on their electricity bills by consuming part of the energy it produces locally. Carrocerías Denver, S.L., a pioneer in implementing a renewable installation of these characteristics, will be able to cover up to 30% of its electricity consumption.
In addition, because of its commitment to self-consumption, Iberdrola España has improved the remuneration of its customers' surpluses and, thanks to innovations in energy products, self-consumers with Iberdrola España plans can value their surpluses over the gas price, making a €0 bill possible.
‘This pioneering initiative is a very important milestone that marks Iberdrola España’s commitment to innovation in energy solutions, sustainability and its commitment to the areas where we operate by making self-consumption available, in this case, to 180 families in the town of Ólvega in Soria’, said Celiano García, Commercial Director of Iberdrola España in Castilla and León.
Joaquín García, manager of Carrocerías Denver, S.L., added that ‘this decision not only represents a step forward in terms of environmental responsibility, but also has significant benefits for the company's efficiency and savings’.
Leader in self-consumption
As part of its commitment to accelerating the energy transition, Iberdrola España not only promotes photovoltaic self-consumption by encouraging feeding it into the energy system through its grids, but also leads the customer management market for this type of energy in Spain.
The collective self-consumption solutions developed by Iberdrola España have made self-consumption available to any customer, whether or not they have their own roof. Customers in this segment also benefit from the Solar Plan, a competitive electricity tariff during the hours when there’s no sun, which is when they need to consume energy from the grid, since during the day they supply themselves from their own installation.
Self-consumption solar systems can save 30% on annual bills in the case of condos, 50% for businesses, and up to 70% in single-family homes. These savings come about in three ways: the energy produced by the installation that the user doesn’t have to buy, compensation for the surplus energy not consumed that is fed into the grid and the savings from lower taxes.
Iberdrola España customers can use the Solar Cloud service to compensate power fed into the grid to offset surpluses for more than the so-called energy term or gas price, even using them at another residence.
