More than 1,000 Iberdrola España customers in a solar community in Murcia
- With these installations residents can cut their electricity bills by accessing renewable self-consumption without making any investment
- Users within a radius of up to two kilometres can connect to these infrastructures, which generate 100% sustainable energy
- Some of the towns that already have an Iberdrola España solar community include Alguazas, Alcantarilla, Cartagena, Jumilla, Las Torres de Cotillas, Molina de Segura and San Javier

Iberdrola España has surpassed 1,000 cliomers members of a solar community in the Region of Murcia, which is allowing to residents tobenefit from the advantages of renewable self-consumption without the need for their own installation or any investments.
This type of community self-consumption lets users within a two kilometre radius to consume 100% renewable energy with guaranteed savings generated from a photovoltaic installation by just signing up for it. The farm is located on the roofs of buildings or industrial warehouses and Iberdrola España takes care of the investment.
In Alguazas, Alcantarilla, Jumilla, Las Torres de Cotillas and Molina de Segura you can form part of a planned Iberdrola España solar community. There are other up and running at full capacity in Alguazas, Cartagena and San Javier.
The company plans to set up similar installations in the near future in Calasparra, Águilas, Lorca, Santomera and Yecla so that local residents can take part in them and save on their electricity bills by consuming part of the energy produced by these installations locally.
For Joaquín Longares, Iberdrola España's sales rep in the region, these projects ‘reflect the company’s commitment in the region to local, sustainable and innovative actions that enable it to supply local energy to its customers’.
Promotion self-consumption
As part of its commitment to accelerating the energy transition, Iberdrola España not only promotes self-consumption by encouraging it to be fed into the energy system through its grids, but also leads the customer management market for this method in Spain.
In 2015, the company became the first company in its sector to integrate self-consumption solutions into its range of services, whether or not the customer had their own roof. These infrastructures can lead to annual bill savings of 30% in the case of neighbourhood communities, 50% for companies and businesses and up to 70% in single-family homes.
These savings come about in three ways: the energy produced by the installation that the user doesn’t have to buy, the compensation for the surplus energy not consumed, which is fed into the grid, and the savings from lower taxes.
With regard to the possibility of offsetting the energy fed into the grid, Iberdrola España customers have the Solar Cloud service, which allows them to compensate for surpluses beyond the energy term, even diverting them for consumption in another residence.
