Terra Mítica will have a photovoltaic self-consumption system installed by Iberdrola España

  • Installed by Iberdrola España, the infrastructure is scheduled to be commissioned this season and has a capacity of 5 megawatts (MW)

Terra Mítica celebrates 25 years this season with the implementation of a photovoltaic energy production plant for own consumption. With the help of Iberdrola España, the Costa Blanca theme park connects to the sun, investing in sustainability and energy efficiency.

The Terra Mítica photovoltaic plant has approximately 9,000 solar panels with a total power of 5 megawatts (MW). This will generate more than 6,700 megawatt hours a year, equivalent to what almost 2,000 homes consume, which will mean a saving of more than 60% of the park's usual consumption.

The photovoltaic modules have been installed on the existing roofs of buildings and attractions, preventing the release into the atmosphere of more than 1.3 tonnes of CO2 a year, helping to increase Terra Mítica’s competitiveness.

Each of the solar modules is state-of-the-art, as are the fifty or so high-performance inverters that are sensorised and connected, so the installation can be monitored in real time.

As part of its commitment to accelerating the energy transition, Iberdrola España not only promotes self-consumption by encouraging feeding it into the electricity system through its grids but also leads the customer management market for this method in Spain.

Self-consumption solar systems can save 30% on annual bills in the case of residents' associations, 50% for businesses, and up to 70% in single-family homes. These savings come about in three ways: the energy produced by the installation that the user does not have to buy, compensation for the surplus energy not consumed that is fed into the grid, and savings from lower taxes.
