WIND FARMS IN LA RIOJA
Wind energy in La Rioja exceeds 300 MW of installed capacity, distributed among 12 wind farms
Wind energy arrived in La Rioja in the early 2000s. In February of that year, Iberdrola España inaugurated its first wind farm in the region – Yerga I.

La Rioja's commitment to renewable energy has been reflected in the implementation of policies and regulations that encourage investment in wind projects and the promotion of energy efficiency. Thus, in 2022, more than 50% of the electricity generated in the autonomous region will come from renewable sources.
In addition to the efforts of the autonomous community to use clean energy, Iberdrola España is also working hard. The 12 wind farms that we have in La Rioja have an installed capacity of 312 MW – capable of generating electricity for thousands of homes annually.
Munilla La-Santa wind farm
The Munilla La-Santa wind farm is located between the Riojan municipalities of Hornillos, Munilla and Zarzosa. With an installed capacity of 36 MW, it has 18 wind turbines with a unitary power of 2,000 kW – some of the most powerful wind turbines in the region.
Larriba-Hornillos wind farm
The Larriba-Hornillos wind farm, with an installed capacity of 32 MW, consists of 16 wind turbines of 2,000 kW each, with a rotor diameter of 83 metres and a hub height of 67 metres. The facility is located in the municipalities of Ajamil, Hornillos and Munilla, in La Rioja.
Gatún I and Gatún II wind farms
Igea-Cornago wind farm
Préjano-Enciso wind farm
Sierra Alcarama I and Sierra Alcarama II wind farms
The combined capacity of the Sierra Alcarama I (6.8 MW) and Sierra Alcarama II (45 MW) wind farms reaches an installed capacity of 51.8 MW. These facilities are located in Cervera del Rio Alhama, in La Rioja.
