Professional career

Ruiz-Tagle began his career at Iberdrola Group, of which Iberdrola España forms part, in 2000 as CEO of Ibero-Americana de Energía Ibener S.A. In 2002, he was appointed director of Institutional Relations of Iberdrola Energía do Brasil Ltda. until 2004, when he became director of Brazil-Chile Businesses of the Latin American Division of Iberdrola S.A. He has also been director of Empresa de Servicios Sanitarios de Los Lagos Essal S.A. and chairman of the Board between 2006 and 2008 in Chile. In 2010, he was appointed Country Manager of Iberdrola Brasil S.A., a position he held until his appointment as CEO of Neoenergia in 2017. In 2019, he led the successful capital opening process of the Group's Brazilian subsidiary and is currently still linked to it as a member of its Board of Directors.

Neoenergia has been one of the Iberdrola Group's major growth vectors, especially during the years when Ruiz-Tagle was at the helm. The Group's Brazilian subsidiary, in which the parent company controls 53.5%, went from earning 303 million Brazilian reais (around €55.8 million) in 2016 to 3.9 billion Brazilian reais (€722 million) in 2021, which means multiplying its net profit by 13. 

Married and father of four children, Ruiz-Tagle holds a degree in Law and Social Sciences from the Universidad Diego Portales, in Santiago de Chile, and a Master's degree in Business Administration and Finance from the Universidad Pontificia Católica de Chile. 
 

Current occupation

Mario Ruiz-Tagle Larrain is CEO of Iberdrola España. As CEO of the Spanish subsidiary of Iberdrola Group, he plays a key role in the direction and management of the company. He is responsible for designing the company's business policies and strategies and its financial performance. He also represents the company before government bodies and institutions.

Participation in other institutions and associations

Ruiz-Tagle is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, the Executive Committee of the Real Instituto Elcano, and the Board of Directors of Aelēc, the Association of Electricity Companies, among other associations. In addition, in July 2024, Ruiz-Tagle has been appointed president of the Spain-Brazil Council Foundation.

Professional recognition

In 2023, Ruiz-Tagle was also recognised with the Spanish High-Profile Award granted by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce of Brazil, which focuses on promoting relations between Spain and the South American country. This award reinforces the exchange and learning between all Iberdrola Group’s subsidiaries
