Cantabria will have four new solar communities thanks to Iberdrola España
- These renewable installations will be the first of their kind to be marketed by the company in the region
- 544 families will be able to access local, 100% sustainable energy generated by a solar photovoltaic system on the roofs of companies in Camargo, Piélagos and Reinosa, which will save them up to 30% on their electricity bills

Cantabria will have four new solar communities thanks to Iberdrola España. Thanks to the new installations, the company will start up a photovoltaic solar system on the roofs of companies in Camargo, Piélagos and Reinosa and they will be the first ones that Iberdrola España will commercialize in Cantabria.
The photovoltaic installations will enable 544 families in the area to benefit from the advantages of renewable self-consumption through a solar community that will mean savings of up to 30% on their electricity bills, without the need to have their own installation or make investments.
This type of community self-consumption allows users to share the 100% sustainable energy generated from a single photovoltaic installation installed within a maximum of two kilometers from their homes.
In total, the installations will have 787 solar panels and a total power of 362 kW, enough to produce 80 MWh per year, which will prevent the emission of around 441 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere over the next 30 years.
For Eduardo Lobato, Iberdrola España's Commercial Delegate in the Region, these projects “reflect the company's commitment in the Community to local, sustainable and innovative actions, which allow it to supply local energy to its customers”.
Leader in self-consumption commercialization
As part of its commitment to accelerating the energy transition, Iberdrola España not only promotes self-consumption by encouraging its incorporation into the energy system through its networks, but also leads the customer management market in this modality in the country.
Iberdrola España, a pioneer in offering self-consumption for customers with single-family homes, has adapted to different needs to make solar self-consumption available to all its customers through its new Smart Solar solutions.
Currently, in Spain, more than two thirds of the population lives in high-rise buildings. For this segment, the energy company offers collective self-consumption alternatives that include the possibility of ceding the roof space to Iberdrola España to take on the installation of the photovoltaic system, facilitating access to the green energy generated to people living nearby.
As for the possibility of compensating the energy discharged to the grid, Iberdrola España customers have the Solar Cloud service, which allows them to compensate surpluses beyond the energy term, even deriving them for consumption at another residence.
