The Regional Minister for the Environment of Castilla and León, Juan Carlos Suárez-Quiñones, and Iberdrola España’s representative in Castilla and León, Miguel Calvo, have signed a collaboration protocol to build a new viewpoint at the Almendra dam and enhance this natural resource, sustainably.

As part of both entities’ commitment to the area, they will create a safe place overlooking the dam to marvel at the local plants and wildlife, as well as to observe some unique bird species. The aim is that a visit to this new viewpoint, which will be added to the Unique Viewpoints of Castilla and León, will be an amazing experience for any nature lover and a delight for the eyes.

Iberdrola España wants to continue to work for and with the Autonomous Community and with all the stakeholders and is committed to its relationship to this rural environment, which is fundamental for the company and the best partner for a greener world.

This initiative – car park plus viewpoint – will not only enrich the tourist offering of the area but will also promote the conservation of the natural environment and contribute to a stronger community. The new Almendra viewpoint aims to become an example of how sustainable tourism can boost the development of inland areas and enhance the value of their natural and cultural heritage.

The Almendra dam, located in the Zamora-Salmantina peneplain, is in the Arribes del Duero Natural Park which offers an enormous diversity of landscapes and nature, highly recommended for nature tourism and hiking. Its cultural wealth and its wide range of gastronomy and wine is also of note.

The Villarino waterfall, which includes the dam complex and the power plant, represents one of the most important milestones in Iberdrola España's more than century-long history, a history that is the sum of the efforts of several generations who have known how to take advantage of the opportunities of the moment of the electricity market, with the ultimate aim of responding to the demands of industrial development and the well-being of Spanish society.

Breathe it all in in Castilla and León

Sustainable tourism in the most beautiful corners of the community is an opportunity available to everyone. Forests, fauna, mountains, valleys, lakes, canyons, trails, viewpoints, charming villages and the charm of its people.

This model of socioeconomic development, while guaranteeing the conservation of these areas, also contributes to improving the quality of life of the people who live in them, promoting actions that enhance the value of their natural, historical and cultural resources.
