We invested more than €2.7 billion in purchases from 4,500 Spanish suppliers
We remain committed to boosting Spain's economic development. During 2022, we have made purchases of more than €2.7 billion from 4,500 Spanish suppliers, a figure that represents a growth of more than 12% compared to 2021. We have contributed €12.7 billion exclusively to Spain's GDP, which corresponds to almost 35% of the Iberdrola Group's contribution to global GDP, which is more than €37 billion.
Companies such as Navantia, Windar, Ormazabal, Ingeatam and Haizea Wind play an integral part in the construction of components for our wind farms, and are included in the local purchases we make as a company. Currently, we have 87% of local purchases, which generate some 400,000 jobs indirectly. Now, we will tell you the main highlights of the economic activity each region of Spain.
COMMUNITY OF MADRID: WE GENERATE A SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACT OF MORE THAN €5.3 BILLION
During the past year, we have purchased and contracted services from more than 1,200 Madrid companies at a cost of more than €4.5 billion, 23% more than last year.
Furthermore, in 2022, i-DE has managed to improve the quality of electricity supply to customers by 24%, reaching an average waiting time of less than half an hour for the first time in its history in the Community of Madrid. Among the development projects, we can highlight the project for the future Plaza de España underground substation and the promotion of electromobility.
EUSKADI: WE GENERATE €2.7 BILLION AND CONTRIBUTE MORE THAN 2% OF BASQUE GDP
The Basque Country is one of the cornerstones of our business. In addition to having our head office in Bilbao, we have contributed more than €400 million in taxation. This means that we have contributed more than 2% of the Community's GDP.
In 2022, we have spent more than €1.7 billion on purchases from around 600 suppliers. But we have also moved ahead with the construction of the first green wind power plants in the region since 2006. With all these projects, jobs for more than 470 employees are expected to be created indirectly.
CASTILLA Y LEÓN: MORE THAN €1.183 BN CONTRIBUTION IN THE REGION IN 2022
We have almost doubled our contribution in the region, adding 47% of impact and, in particular, investments worth €691 million, which have shot up by more than 150% compared to last year. In addition to this, we have 1,000 employees in the region and we have purchased from 400 suppliers.
We have made significant progress in reinforcing our innovative and renewable leadership, consolidating Castilla y León as a major centre for clean energy development. We have already started the construction of two wind farms, Valdemoro and Buniel. In addition, the green light has been given to two other projects, Alcocero de Mola and Iglesias . A curious feature of this one is that it will have the most powerful onshore wind turbines in the world.
VALENCIAN COMMUNITY: IMPACT GREATER THAN €840 MILLION WITH PURCHASES FROM 450 SUPPLIERS
We remain committed to the economic development of the Valencian Community. We have generated an economic impact of €843 million, including more than €260 million of investments in the region. In addition, we have surpassed the number of 44,000 self-consumption installations, which means an increase of 350 MW of green generation.
We are also committed to the decarbonisation of transport and to this end, together with Disfrimur, we have set up public chargers adapted for electric trucks. The aim is to carry out a complete electrification of the Mediterranean corridor for the transport of goods.
Castilla La-Mancha: a contribution of more than 750 million euros
Castilla La-Mancha is one of the cornerstones of our business in Spain. We have therefore reaffirmed our commitment to the autonomous community with a total economic impact of €757 million last year, a 9% increase.
We have made purchases from 240 suppliers in Castilla-La Mancha worth more than €300 million. Our main suppliers in the region include Eiffage, which has its Spanish headquarters in Albacete, Gewind, Inael Electrical, Iberloz and Tresa. As a result of our commitment to the region, we have inaugurated the largest green hydrogen plant for industrial use in Europe in Puertollano.
ANDALUSIA: WE PROVIDED ALMOST €720 MILLION, WITH €200 MILLION SPENT ON PURCHASES FROM 205 SUPPLIERS
In Andalusia, we have had an economic impact of almost €720 million, which is an increase of 6 % over last year. In addition to this, we have 205 Andalusian suppliers, from whom we have made purchases worth around €200 million from companies such as Andaluza de Montajes Eléctricos, Sistem Melesur Energía or Hermanos Campano.
In addition, we have more than 1000 MW of renewable energy between seven of the eight provinces in the region, which has made Andalusia one of the Iberdrola group's major growth centres in Spain. It is also worth noting that we have inaugurated two wind farms: one in Seville (Martín de la Jara) and the other in Málaga (El Puntal II ).
EXTREMADURA: €700 MILLION AND A BREAKTHROUGH IN PHOTOVOLTAIC ENERGY
In Extremadura we have also made purchases from 110 suppliers with more than €700 million, including Faramax, Trabajos Forestales y de Jardineria, Seycex, Incalexa and Computer Global. In addition, we have 270 employees in the region.
Extremadura has become one of the growth regions thanks to the start of operations at the Majada Alta and San Antonio photovoltaic plants, as well as the start of production at Almaraz. Almaraz 1 and the start of construction at Almaraz 2 and Cedillo . Precisely in Cedillo, we have moved forward with the installation of the first solar community for an entire village in our country.
GALICIA: €360 MILLION CONTRIBUTION, INCLUDING A €137 MILLION TAX CONTRIBUTION
During 2022, we have strengthened our commitment to Galicia, buying from more than 220 suppliers in the region. We have contributed with more than €360 million including the tax contribution in the area of €137 million.
In addition, the relationship with Navantia Seaenergies and Windar , has been strengthened. An agreement has been made that will involve 15 months of work and generate approximately 450 jobs.
MURCIA: SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACT REACHES €330 MILLION WITH A LARGE INCREASE IN INVESTMENTS
In the Murcia region, we have been an important driver of the economy in 2022, with figures reaching €330 million, including €122 million, which has increased by 50% compared to the previous year. We have started work on Peñarrubia, our company's first photovoltaic plant in Murcia.
It should also be noted that we have made purchases from a total of 180 Murcian suppliers, including companies such as IDEA, Politec, Icono Enterprise, Limcamar and Unión Talleres y Reparaciones. We have also been responsible for supporting various social projects such as the Columbares Association, Caritas Diocese of Cartagena and ASIDO Cartagena.
NAVARRE: CONTRIBUTION OF MORE THAN €300 MILLION IN 2022
Navarre has received an economic impact of €300 million from us, with purchases from 80 suppliers worth some €265 million, including STI Norland and TRINA Solar. In 2022, our tax contribution to the Navarre region was around €11 million.
We have invested €38 million, with including the innovative wind turbine recycling plant in the municipality of Cortes. Construction is due to start in autumn 2023 with the prospect of starting operation from 2024.
ARAGON: PURCHASES FROM 120 SUPPLIERS WORTH €50 MILLION WITH A SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACT OF €155 MILLION
In 2022, we have reaffirmed our commitment to Aragon. We have generated a significant socio-economic impact in the region with investments reaching €155 million. These figures include purchases from a total of 125 suppliers for a value of €49 million.
Another highlight of the activities carried out in Aragon is the progress made with our plans to double the renewable energy capacity in the region with the processing of several projects such as the Escatrón, Fuendetodos and Peñaflor photovoltaic plants, which already have the corresponding Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
LA RIOJA: A SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACT OF MORE THAN €61 MILLION IN 2022
2022 was a key year for the development of our activity in La Rioja. With a socio-economic impact of more than €61 million, we managed to increase our investment by 12%, reaching €22 million. We have purchased from a total of 50 Rioja suppliers, further strengthening our commitment to the region.
In addition, we have maintained a historic level of electricity supply quality in the region, which has managed to be above the national average. Specifically, we have managed to restore electricity supply to 70% of customers in less than 30 minutes. Thus, in 2022, there has been an improvement of 22% in the quality of electricity supply, thus closing the best year in the historical series.
