More than 200 Iberdrola España volunteers in Castile and León, united under the slogan 'Together we build the world we want'

More than 200 volunteers from Iberdrola España in Castilla y León have been involved in various solidarity projects related to environmental protection, the fight against climate change, the inclusion of vulnerable groups and social assistance throughout the company's International Volunteer Week, united under the slogan 'Together we build the world we want'.
Nearly 25% of the Iberdrola España group's workforce participates annually in the solidarity actions organised by the company within the framework of its Volunteering Programme. Since it was launched in 2006, close to 10 million people have benefited from the actions promoted by the company in 24 different countries.
In the last year alone, the number of volunteers has increased by more than 30% to 17,000 people, who have invested more than 62,000 hours of work in 750 activities promoted by Iberdrola España.
Solidarity actions in Castilla y León
In the town of Solosancho in Avila, Avila, an environmental day has been carried out that continues with the reforestation, already started in 2022, of a burnt area, helping to recover the natural environment. In addition, volunteers and villagers have adapted and watered the existing plantation and extended the game fencing to protect the reforested species and ensure their full growth.
In Valladolid, Iberdrola España volunteers accompanied by Red Cross Youth families have collaborated with the A.M.A. environmental association. El Pisuerga in the recovery of the public and leisure space of the old Cabildo, an archaeological site located next to the dam and electricity substation on the Pisuerga River. They have cleaned and conditioned this place, and have created a path to go down to the dam and the river.
Another of the solidarity initiatives has taken place in the Coto Escolar de León. This 120,000 m2 area, which was abandoned and used as a rubbish dump, is now a park with animals, forest trees, fruit trees, gardens, meadows, orchards, greenhouses... where Iberdrola España volunteers have planted 200 oak and holm oak trees and built huts for wildlife.
Iberdrola España has also carried out other solidarity activities such as a paddle tennis tournament in the community, the entries for which will be donated to a social organisation for people with disabilities to promote adapted sports.
Pioneering, diverse and global volunteering
The first edition of the Iberdrola Group's international volunteer awards was recently held, presided over by the company's chairman Ignacio Galán, as part of the International Volunteer Week organised simultaneously each year in the main countries where it operates. Under the slogan 'Together we build the world we want', the company has carried out up to 130 solidarity activities with more than 8,000 volunteers.
With its International Volunteering Programme, the Iberdrola Group aims to motivate its professionals to participate in social projects aimed primarily at vulnerable groups, improving the environment and sustainable development.
Iberdrola's volunteering programme has been the only Spanish company to be recognised as a pioneering practice by the United Nations in its Transforming Lives and Communities report, published in September 2021. This programme has already been awarded by IMPACT2030 with the 2018 Innovation Award in recognition of its innovative approaches to advancing the SDGs through its human capital.
