Iberdrola España began construction yesterday, 18 March 2024, of the most powerful charging station in Spain. The facility, one of the largest in the country, will have 47 charging points, with a total power of 5.6 MW, and a solar community that will allow 92 families to access self-consumption without the need for their own installation or investment.
The charging station will have charging points with a wide variety of power ratings, including 15 ultra-fast points that will form part of the alliance between Iberdrola España and bp pulse for the development of high-power sustainable mobility. These points will be powered by 100% green energy – from renewable sources with a Guarantee of Origin certificate (GoO).
The future charging station is located in a privileged enclave with 750,000 inhabitants in its area of influence, as it is located between the cities of Leganés, Getafe, Fuenlabrada and Alcorcón, the Parque Polvoranca train station and the connection with the M-406 (north), M-407 (west), M-409 (east) and M-50 (south) motorways. The project is funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
The company will complete work on the facility in the summer, pending connection to the grid and the final administrative authorisations.
Leader in mobility
Iberdrola España's electric mobility network is the largest in Spain – with over 6,000 public charging points with a 100% renewable Guarantee of Origin. In total, between public and private charging points, the company's network has 45,000 chargers.
The mobility plan, launched by the company in 2016, was pioneer in its implementation. Today, its strategy envisages the installation of more than 100,000 charging points by 2025, including public charging points, residential, companies and car parks.
The design of its public infrastructure is being developed on highways and corridors as well as in cities and small towns with the aim of having at least one fast charging station every 50 km or less.
The company's goal for 2024 is to provide users with an even wider infrastructure and the best range of charging locations and speeds. Its plans for the coming year include the installation of more than 3,000 additional charging points – bringing the total to more than 9,000 by the end of the year. In addition to these points, a high-power charging network should be added to this amount, as a result of its alliance with bp.
Pioneer in self-consumption
Iberdrola España leads the photovoltaic self-consumption market in Spain, managing 40% of the country's self-consumption customers. As part of its commitment to accelerating the energy transition and developing new products to improve efficiency and energy savings, in 2015 the company became the first company in its sector to integrate self-consumption solutions into its range of services.
Self-consumption solar systems can save 30% on annual bills in the case of residents' associations; 50% for companies and businesses; and up to 70% in single-family homes. These savings are produced in three ways: the energy produced by the installation that the user does not have to buy, the compensation for the surplus energy not consumed, which is fed into the grid, and savings due to lower taxes.
