Iberdrola España has received certification from AENOR in accordance with the international UNE-EN ISO 14001 standard for environmental management systems for the management of renewable hydrogen production at its Barcelona plant. This is the first commercial facility for the production and dispensing of renewable hydrogen in Spain, which is used both by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) buses and other fleets and industries in the Zona Franca industrial estate, where it is located.

Certification according to the UNE-EN ISO 14001 Standard is the most widespread worldwide to demonstrate correct environmental management, and confirms that Iberdrola España has implemented a management system at these facilities that helps it to prevent environmental impacts by using the necessary means to avoid, reduce or control them, always in balance with socio-economic rationality, committed to continuous improvement.

The benefits of this certification can be summarised in three: it conveys commitment in a direct and credible way; economic benefits are obtained by optimising the consumption of energy, raw materials and water by improving processes; and it reduces legal risks.

Nicolás Henríquez, Director of Business Development at AENOR, presented the certificate to Iban Molina, Director of Green Hydrogen at Iberdrola Spain. According to Nicolás Henríquez "Iberdrola has a real commitment to sustainability in its DNA and the certificate we are presenting today is a good example of this. With this certificate, there are now 10 ISO 14001 certificates that AENOR has awarded to the company for different activities, thus recognising its good practices in environmental matters".

According to Iban Molina "this certificate shows the work undertaken taking into account sustainability and environmental management, as well as the company's commitment to decarbonisation but also to the care and protection of the entire chain and customers".

For the awarding of this certificate, the AENOR audit team has valued, among other issues, the excellent state of order and cleanliness of the production plant, as well as the rigorous and in-depth legal knowledge of the plant.
