Iberdrola España and WOMEN LAB BILBAO bring together 200 Basque female managers in a conference on 'Women, Sport and Health'

Nearly 200 female executives and managers from the most important companies in the Basque Country took part yesterday in a meeting on 'Women, sport and health'. This conference was held by WOMEN LAB BILBAO, with the collaboration of Iberdrola España.

WOMEN LAB BILBAO is a space to connect, share and promote the talent of women working in the Basque Country. There are already 500 female executives and managers participating in various actions, networks, meetings and conferences to promote Basque professionals’ careers.

This new meeting, held in the Torre Iberdrola Auditorium, was presented by the founder of WOMEN LAB BILBAO Laura Ruiz Andrino, and was attended by Markel Pérez, Head of the Sports Medicine Unit at IMQ; Itxaso Erroteta, Councillor for Youth and Sport at the Bilbao City Council; Izaskun Casas, Sports Marketing & Branded Content at Forum Sport; and Laura Gil, Head of Sponsorship at Iberdrola España.

The speakers shared key data on the benefits of sport for women's health, the initiatives, services and facilities of Bilbao City Council, the proposals and success stories of Forum Sport and the keys to sports sponsorship by Iberdrola España, which has been promoting women's sport since 2016.

In this regard, Laura Gil, Head of Sponsorship at the Basque company, explained that "the support of companies such as Iberdrola España and institutions for women's federations and clubs has been key to positioning women among the sporting elite and promoting equality in the world of sport".

Laura Ruiz is clear that "for professionals, exercise is, more than ever, necessary and essential to have the health and energy needed to manage work, family and any day-to-day situation that we usually encounter. It is not easy. You have to find time to work out. It is ALWAYS worth it".

Iberdrola España made its commitment to equality one of its inalienable values. Since 2016, the company has been the main promoter of women's sport in Spain. The company already supports 35 National Federations, promoting more than 800,000 federated women – two out of every three – and has over 100 competitions with Iberdrola España's own name, including 32 leagues. In addition, the company has been sponsoring women's football in Brazil since 2021 through its subsidiary Neoenergia; in the United Kingdom since 2023 through Scottish Power; and in Portugal since this year.

Along the same lines are the Iberdrola Supera Awards, which since 2020 have sought to recognise and give visibility to the best initiatives implemented in Spain in favour of equality and empowerment of women through sport.

In addition, through the Ambassadors Programme, the company also has an important commitment to Olympic and Paralympic athletes, and has sponsored the Spanish Paralympic team through the Paralympic Objective Sport Support Plan (ADOP) since its creation in 2005.
