  • The Iberdrola Group's Director of Innovation and Sustainability highlights that Extremadura has become "one of our fastest growing regions"

Iberdrola España has signed up to the "Extremadura is Future Alliance", an initiative promoted by the Social Council of the University of Extremadura (UEX), with the aim of developing the employability and job creation programme "Extremadura is Future", aimed at young university graduates.

Those in charge of signing the agreement were the Iberdrola Group's Chief Innovation and Sustainability Officer, Agustín Delgado; the Rector of the University of Extremadura (UEx), Pedro Mª Fernández Salguero; and the President of the UEx Social Council, Antonio Huertas Mejías, accompanied by Iberdrola España's Delegate in Extremadura, David Martín Arevalillo.

This initiative contributes specifically directly to the granting of 10 training scholarships for undergraduate students of the University of Extremadura, who will be able to do 6 months of internships in companies. This will promote the training and employability of a new generation of talented young professionals, as a key socio-economic lever in companies in the region.

The Iberdrola Group's Chief Innovation and Sustainability Officer Agustín Delgado highlighted the energy company's commitment "to the progress of people and companies in all the territories in which we operate."

Along these lines, Delgado emphasised that in recent years "Extremadura has become one of our fastest growing regions and, through this collaboration, we want to contribute to creating opportunities for young talent and for the economic and social development that this Alliance represents".

The President of the Social Council, Antonio Huertas, points out that "the Alliance for Extremadura seeks to tie the criteria so that all companies, third sector institutions and public institutions can help to put the environmental, inclusion and equality aspects, and the development of people at the heart of the economic growth of our land."

To conclude, the Rector of the University of Extremadura Pedro Mª Fernández Salguero said: "It is a challenge that we face at University of Extremadura. Not only be an educational institution but also contribute to the wealth of the region by providing talent and doing everything possible so that we can retain this talent".

Iberdrola and its commitment to talent, excellence and employability

Iberdrola España, as part of its ongoing support and ties to education and entrepreneurship, is carrying out various initiatives and programmes aimed at developing the skills and talent of students in the field of research and innovation. These include programmes such as Iberdrola U, the Iberdrola Universities Programme; the International Master's Scholarship Programme, which allows graduates and final-year university students to train in activities related to the energy transition at the national and international level; Fundación Iberdrola España, which collaborates with scholarship programmes of various institutions, such as the Fulbright Commission, Fundación Carolina or the restoration workshops of the Prado Museum and the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum; Iberdrola España's grants for the Promotion of STEM for young people from socioeconomically vulnerable backgrounds. There are other scholarships such as those developed together with the Spanish Paralympic Committee, aimed at providing professional training to athletes with a view to their integration into the labour market once their career in sport is over.
