Iberdrola España develops 15 Solar Communities in the province of Huesca
- The facilities are located in Huesca city (5), Aínsa, Almudévar, Barbastro (2), Fraga, Jaca, Monzón, Sabiñánigo (2) and Sariñena.
- More than 1,500 families in Huesca will enjoy the advantages of self-consumption without any investment or installation
Iberdrola España is developing solar communities in Huesca. These are renewable facilities located on the roofs of warehouses or buildings that will allow residents to enjoy the advantages of self-consumption – without any investment or installation, as Iberdrola España will carry out the work.
Iberdrola España already has eight solar communities in operation in the province, distributed in Huesca (3), Aínsa, Almudévar, Fraga, Sabiñánigo and Sariñena. The Company has another seven in the process of being launched, located in Huesca (2), Barbastro (2), Jaca, Monzón and Sabiñánigo, after reaching agreements with local partners for the rental of their roofs.
Thanks to these solar communities, more than 1,500 Huesca families within a radius of approximately two kilometres will be able to subscribe and save on their electricity bills by consuming locally part of the energy produced by this type of facility. The warehouses’ tenants will also be able to cover part of their electricity consumption.
This form of community self-consumption allows users to access 100% renewable energy generated from the roofs of buildings, where photovoltaic panels are being installed with a total power of over 1,200 kilowatts (kW) – enough to produce 1,600 MWh per year. These photovoltaic facilities will prevent the emission of around 9,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere over the next 30 years.
For Luis Artigas, Iberdrola España's Sales Representative in Aragon, these projects "are enabling the people of Huesca to save on their electricity bills while helping to promote sustainability. This innovative solution makes it possible to enjoy all the advantages of self-consumption, without any investment, so customers consume renewable energy generated in their own environment".
Users can calculate economic and environmental savings and join the solar community through Solar Communities - Iberdrola España.
Promoting self-consumption
Furthermore, as a result of its commitment to self-consumption, Iberdrola España has improved the remuneration of its customers' surpluses. Thanks to innovation in energy products, self-consumers with Iberdrola España plans can value their surpluses beyond the energy term. This makes it possible to have a bill of 0€ and now also benefit from the value of surpluses in other houses of the same owner.
Iberdrola España leads the photovoltaic self-consumption market in Spain, managing 40% of the country's self-consumption customers. As part of its commitment to accelerating the energy transition and developing new products to improve efficiency and energy savings, in 2015 the Company became the first Company in its sector to integrate self-consumption solutions into its range of services.
The Company has reinforced its position as the benchmark Company in self-consumption and, through Smart Solar, offers services for all types of customers, from domestic consumers to large industrial customers.
The collective self-consumption solutions developed by Iberdrola España have made self-consumption available to any customer – whether or not they have their own roof. Customers can also benefit from the Solar Plan, a competitive electricity tariff during the hours when there is no sun. That is when they need to consume energy from the grid – as during the day they self-supply from their own facility.
Self-consumption solar systems can save 30% on annual bills in the case of residents' associations; 50% for companies and businesses; and up to 70% in single-family homes. These savings exist in three ways: the energy produced by the facility that the user does not have to buy, the offset for the surplus energy not consumed that is fed into the grid, and the savings due to lower taxes.
