Within the framework of the Coopera programme and as part of the meetings held by the coordination groups of the Command, Iberdrola España has opened its facilities in the basin of the river Esla, as it passes through Zamora, to a group of trainees alféreces (second lieutenants or a military officer who carries the flag during ceremonies in Spain) of the Guardia Civil in Zamora and Benavente and to a French gendarme who is providing a safe tourism service on the Pilgrims' Route to Santiago de Compostela during this month.
The working day concluded in various activities that complement the training on these facilities’ operation and which will undoubtedly result in improved safety performance.
The idea with this training is to train future commanders for their responsible duties once they are assigned to their operations.
The Head of Iberdrola España's Esla Production Centre, Francisco J. Sánchez; Iberdrola España’s Regional Head of Safety, Laureano Arias; and the Maintenance Technician at the Ricobayo power plant, Inés Velasco, accompanied the group, which also included the commander Pedro Matellán, Head of Personnel and Support of the Zamora Command, the new captain of the Zamora company, the lieutenant of Benavente and members of Puesto de Muelas.
During their tour of the facilities, the Guardia Civil officers learnt about how these infrastructures work, as well as the security systems that the Company has installed.
By participating in this type of initiative, Iberdrola España once again demonstrates its commitment to training, prevention and the responsibilities arising from its activities in the areas where it operates.
The Ricobayo I and II hydroelectric plants have a nominal capacity of 291 megawatts (MW) and form part of the Douro System, to which other relevant hydroelectric plants such as Aldeadávila, Villarino, Saucelle, Castro and Villalcampo belong.
