Iberdrola España will invest 11 million euros to renovate the Corral del Cuervo electricity substation in Castellón
- Connection capacity will be increased by means of new lines to the La Plana and Alcalatén substations, which will reinforce energy supply in the area
- These actions will help electrify the economy and integrate renewable generation, mainly from self-consumption systems
Iberdrola España's distribution company, i-DE, is to invest 11 million euros in extending and renovating the Corral del Cuervo transformer substation, located in Onda, Castellón, as a commitment to improving the quality of electricity supply and reliability in the area, as it is a hub facility for the tile industry.
The remodelling of the substation will make it possible to have more 132 kilovolt (kV) line positions to operate with greater flexibility in energy distribution in the area and improve adaptation to operating conditions, as it will enable connection with the La Plana and Alcalatén substations.
In addition, the new substation configuration will enable it to be connected in the future to new substations built in the province to cover expected growth in surrounding municipalities.
For Guillermo Raga, director of i-DE in the Eastern Region, ‘this set of actions will help electrify the economy and integrate renewable generation by increasing capacity and improving availability, contributing to the necessary energy transition and the decarbonisation of the economy. Electricity grids are essential to enable the energy transition, so it is essential to increase investment’.
I-DE is immersed in a transformation of the electricity distribution grid that is providing more information to implement additional energy efficiency and sustainability measures, in a way that is committed to ambitious and urgent climate action. The deployment of the smart grid makes it possible to respond to new models of grid use and offer our communities better service.
Top supply quality
The company has improved the quality of the service it offers its customers in the Valencia region, with the best year-end value in history. In the province of Castellón, i-DE manages more than 11,000 km of power lines, has 4,000 transformer stations in service and 34 substations.
In recent years, the company has undertaken an ambitious plan to digitalise its electricity grids, converting its more than 450,000 meters in the province and the infrastructure that supports them into smart meters, incorporating remote management, supervision and automation capabilities.
The digitisation of the electricity distribution grid will allow for more information to implement additional energy efficiency and sustainability measures, in a way that is committed to ambitious and urgent climate action. Deploying the smart grid makes it possible to respond to new models of grid use and offer our communities better service.
