Iberdrola España launches the first aerothermal tariff in Spain

  • Thanks to its smart algorithm each customer will automatically enjoy a 40% discount during their eight daily peak hours

In its aim to decarbonise the economy and reach a more sustainable world and society, Iberdrola España has launched the first specifically aerothermal tariff in Spain which, in addition, has 100% renewable energy certified with a guarantee of origin, which further reduces CO2 emissions, favouring decarbonisation. With this it aims to promote this technology that emits less emissions than combustion boilers and offers the customer economic benefits.

The new tariff is available for both new and old homes, whether they are high-rise or single-family. There’s no minimum contract for the tariff and it is personalised, calculating the eight hours of each customer’s highest consumption daily, automatically applying a 40% discount to it. Thanks to its smart algorithm, the customer can get the most out of their aerothermal energy with full flexibility and no hourly limitations, since the tariff adapts daily to their needs and routines.

In addition, as a launch promotion, Iberdrola España offers a 15% discount for two years on the aerothermal tariff’s energy price for 24 hours a day, i.e. on the promotional price and the remaining hours.

The company will add additional discounts if products related to aerothermal energy are contracted. Currently, for example, if you sign up for the home maintenance pack, you get an additional 5% off the price of energy for two years.

To facilitate the electrification of the residential fleet and the different sectors of the economy, Iberdrola España is working on designing more smart plans optimised for certain profiles and consumers. As a first measure and to reward users with efficient homes that contribute most to decarbonisation by reducing the use of fossil fuels, the company has extended the conditions of the aerothermal smart tariff to its most electrified customers.

"In line with our decarbonisation objective, we have designed a tariff to reward customers who are committed to the fight against climate change and the reduction of fossil fuels. Aerothermal systems save up to 70% in heating. It’s a perfect combination of economic benefit and the environment", says Víctor Carballo, Iberdrola España's Smart Climate Manager.

Energy and cost savings

A total of 40% of emissions in Europe come from heating homes with fossil fuels. Various European programmes advocate for accelerating the transition to renewable energies, mainly aerothermal energy.

Aerothermal systems are heat pumps that extract energy from the air through a thermodynamic cycle to provide heating in winter, cooling in summer and hot water all year round.

Aerothermal energy, compared to traditional boilers, as a renewable energy source, avoids combustion and its associated emissions, while at the same time achieving savings of up to 70% in energy for heating in the case of underfloor heating and up to 40% in the case of radiators. In addition, this technology is safer as it eliminates the need for storage and dependence on fuel.
