Iberdrola chose the capital of Zamora to reaffirm its commitment to decarbonisation at the second Fromago 2024 International Cheese Fair, one of the biggest events of the year in the province, which brought together more than 300 exhibitors and 300,000 visitors.

"The company is aware of the need to promote the decarbonisation of industry in general, and dairy in particular, through electrification, which is essential for tackling climate change, using energy more efficiently and promoting innovation", said Xabier Antiza, head of industrial decarbonisation at Iberdrola at a round table moderated by Ignacio Antolin, head of Institutional Relations at Iberdrola in Castilla y León, which addressed what the dairies of the future should be like to minimise their carbon footprint and carry out their activities responsibly.

The industry has assumed its responsibility, committing itself to move towards a future in which it can coexist in harmony with the surrounding environment, contributing to the well-being of society and the preservation of the planet.

The transition to a low-carbon economy is not only imperative to mitigate the effects of global warming but also represents an opportunity to create wealth and jobs and improve air quality.

To do so, a greater commitment must be made to the grids; for every euro invested in renewables, one euro must be invested in electricity grids. Increasing investment in grids is essential to be able to integrate new renewable power, secure supply and become more resilient in the face of extreme weather phenomena and be able to develop the digitalisation of the system, which is so necessary for the expansion of electric mobility, self-consumption and the electrification of heat in industry. Iberdrola España is a key player in the decarbonisation of urban passenger transport.

Decarbonisation of industry through renewable energy

Decarbonising industry through electrification is crucial to move towards a more sustainable and resilient future.

A large part of industry's energy needs comes from so-called industrial heat, which is used in industrial processes. Heat is needed for a wide range of industrial applications, such as heating fluids, making steam, carrying out chemical reactions, drying materials, melting metals or heating facilities. In addition, because of its wide variety of applications, industrial heat often requires different temperature levels and heat quantities, depending on the specific needs of each process.

Historically, fossil fuels such as natural gas, oil and coal have been used to generate this heat in boilers and industrial furnaces. However, the growing focus on sustainability and the search to reduce greenhouse gas emissions means that industry is increasingly looking to renewable and more energy-efficient sources of heat. The decarbonisation of industry through electrification is undoubtedly fundamental to progress in the fight against climate change.

In addition, electrification allows for a more efficient use of energy while enabling the implementation of more advanced control and monitoring technologies, resulting in a more accurate and efficient management of industrial processes.

The diet of an elite athlete, one of the keys to his or her results

Iberdrola ambassador and one of the top athletes in the history of sports, Lydia Valentín, discussed the importance of a good diet for an elite athlete and the health benefits of dairy products on the last day of this event in Zamora.

"An elite athlete’s nutrition is today one of the keys to his or her results. And also part of how long you can keep competing at top levels". This is clear to the weightlifter from El Bierzo, who for years has managed to strike a balance between her diet and the wear and tear caused by preparing for major sporting events.

"Hard work and proper nutrition are essential ingredients in the recipe for success in sports," Valentín stressed at the second edition of Fromago, which was held in the Zamora capital with resounding success.
