Iberdrola España launches plan to accelerate and facilitate access to aerothermal energy
- The energy company brings together all existing state incentives and adds its own to reinforce the competitiveness of aerothermal energy over gas and oil boilers.
- With this commitment, the company seeks to accelerate the energy transition and encourage electrifying and decarbonising residential air conditioning.
On the occasion of Heat Pump and Energy Saving Day, Iberdrola España has launched an action plan that reinforces the competitiveness of aerothermal energy compared to gas and oil boilers. The company has brought together all current state incentives and mechanisms, which it manages and processes for greater customer simplicity, as well as including additional promotions, such as its Renove plan, its proposed Energy Saving Certificate (ESC) system, and different bonuses.
In this way, Iberdrola España seeks to minimise the investment required in the implementation of aerothermal energy in the home to accelerate the energy transition and facilitate the electrification and decarbonisation of residential air conditioning.
The Spanish government offers a series of tax rebates for energy efficiency improvements, allowing the user to deduct up to 60% of the initial investment, up to a maximum of 9,000 euros to be divided over three years, which means 3,000 euros off a year.
The change from a gas or oil boiler to aerothermal implies energy saving so it is associated with an Energy Saving Certificate (ESC) that Iberdrola España is responsible for processing and managing. The company, supported by this new certificate, offers a discount of 2,000 euros directly off the purchase price in addition to the direct discount of 1,000 euros through its Renove plan, available until the end of the year. The company also offers 800 euros off you electricity bill when you sign up for the Smart Aerothermal solution.
For a 80 square metre flat, a complete aerothermal solution would cost around 12,000 euros, which, after discounts and rebates, would be reduced to 5,200 euros. In the case of a single-family home that was the same size that would be down to 2,800 euros due to a larger tax rebate. For a 200 square metre single-family house and a 15,000 euro aerothermal system, the final cost would be 4,000 euros.
The energy company also offers its customers a financing plan, starting from 12 months interest-free up to 10 years with a competitive interest rate compared to the current market offering.
For greater economic benefits, in August Iberdrola España launched the first specific tariff for users with aerothermal. The "Smart Aerothermal Savings" tariff is based on an algorithm that calculates each customer's eight peak consumption hours on a daily basis, automatically applying a 40% discount.
Energy and cost savings
A total of 40% of emissions in Europe come from heating homes with fossil fuels. Various European programmes advocate accelerating its transition to renewable energies, mainly through aerothermal energy.
Aerothermal systems are heat pumps that extract energy from the air through a thermodynamic cycle to provide heating in winter, cooling in summer and hot water all year round.
Aerothermal energy, compared to traditional boilers, as a renewable energy source avoids combustion and its associated emissions, while at the same time achieving savings of up to 70% in energy in the case of underfloor heating and up to 40% in the case of radiators. This technology is also safer as it eliminates the need for storage and dependence on fuel.
