Iberdrola España's Smart Grids Academy wins Best Digital Business Transformation Project Award

  • During the DOK Summit in Bilbao, the pioneering event that brings together the leaders in digital, the most innovative companies and emerging talent through the digital and green transition.
  • The SGA is a clear example of public–private collaboration and the capacity of this combination to boost the competitiveness of the business ecosystem and attract talent to Bizkaia.

Smart grids are essential to meet the objectives of the energy transition and to accompany companies on their path towards decarbonisation. Being able to attract and develop green talent around smart grids is a key part in this process.

DOK Summit, the pioneering event that brings together the digital leaders, the most innovative companies and emerging talent through the digital and green transition, has awarded the Smart Grids Academy in Bilbao in the category of Best Digital Business Transformation Project. The award was collected by Estibaliz Goñi, Processes and Technology Director of i-DE, distributor of the Iberdrola group.

The SGA aims to support professionals in the development of digital skills linked to the application of emerging technologies to smart grids with a blended learning methodology based on the principle of “learning by doing”. The Smart Grids Academy is a commitment to talent in smart grids as key to competitiveness and a lever in the energy transition, a field full of promise.

It is also a perfect example of public–private collaboration, and of the capacity of this pairing to boost the competitiveness of the business ecosystem and attract talent to Bizkaia, a territory committed to this objective. "This project would not have been possible without the support of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and the collaboration with the GAIA cluster and we shouldn’t forget the collaborators of the Global Smart Grids Innovation Hub, whose commitment to the project has been key" explained Estíbaliz Goñi, who added that "the SGA is a cornerstone to the development of digital capabilities in the electricity sector, and symbolises Iberdrola España's commitment to the business fabric and the promotion of green jobs, linking up with Global Green Employment, a job search assistance platform with which Iberdrola España posts all the energy transition-related job and training opportunities".

During the DOK Summit Bilbao, Silvia Nuñez Rivero, Head of Digital Transformation at Iberdrola España, participated in the expert panel “Business Transformation: the Impact of Technology”, which highlighted the keystone that digital transformation has become as it "acts as an enabler and accelerator of the energy transition towards a decarbonised and sustainable model", and added that "this model is supported by a greater use of renewable energies, smart grid operation and greater storage capacity, and presents many challenges, such as optimising and making the energy system more flexible, where artificial intelligence and the use of data are essential".

Leire Hormigo, Senior Recruiter at the Northern Region for Talent Recruiting at Iberdrola España, also participated in the DOK Summit, advancing the company's lines of work "within our 2024-2026 strategic plan, where we want to onboard 10,000 new professionals in these three years, with a focus on gender equality and diversity. We need young profiles with STEM skills to drive the electrification of the economy and solve the climate crisis".
