Iberdrola España organises meetings to promote the use of Energy Saving Certificates as a lever for companies decarbonisation and competitiveness
- The Chamber of Commerce of Navarra, the Castilla y León Businessowners’ Association and Iberdrola España are organising this conference to provide information on how this mechanism works.
- Practical examples of companies that have implemented energy efficiency measures and monetised them were presented.
More than a hundred businessmen from Navarra and Castilla y León have participated in the meetings organised by the Chamber of Commerce of Navarra and CEOE Castilla y León, respectively, with the collaboration of Iberdrola España, where the advantages of the Energy Saving Certificates (CAEs) as a lever for the decarbonisation and improvement of the competitiveness of companies have been presented.
The experts stressed the importance of EWCs for companies, as they help them to meet their energy saving obligations, contribute to the sustainability objectives in Spain and Europe and represent significant economic savings.
Meeting on Energy Saving Certificates in Navarre
In Navarre, the conference was inaugurated by Eduardo Ryan, Iberdrola España's delegate in the region, who stated that "at Iberdrola España we promote CAEs, which are a useful tool for making progress in energy efficiency and the decarbonisation of industry. Approximately two thirds of all primary energy is lost in fossil fuel conversion processes. Fossil fuels need to be replaced by low-emission electricity, which is more efficient. In this way, we will decarbonise the economy and consume less primary energy".
The meeting was also attended by Garbiñe Basterra, Director General of Energy, Business R&D&I and Entrepreneurship of the Government of Navarra, and Iñaki Puncel, Sustainability Technician of the Chamber of Commerce of Navarra, who stressed the importance of the CAEs for companies as they help them to comply with their energy saving obligations, contribute to the sustainability objectives in Spain and Europe, and represent significant economic savings.
Esperanza Aristu, Director of the Energy Transition Service of the Government of Navarre, also gave a presentation on the Government of Navarre's industrial decarbonisation strategy.
Óscar Fernández Segura, head of section of the Energy Plan and European Projects of the Government of Navarre, explained how to process the Energy Saving Certificate, and Fernando Corvo, technical director of Balantia, reported on the basic principles to make this process simple.
Finally, Alberto Pérez de Ciriza, commercial director of Iberdrola España in Navarra, moderated a round table discussion with the participation of Fernando Díaz, sustainability and energy consultant at Zabala Innovation Consulting; Albert Grau, head of public affairs at Rockwool; Berta Úriz, director of the housing department at Nasuvinsa, and Ramón Pérez, manager of STQ Energía.

Meeting on Energy Saving Certificates in Castile and Leon
In Castilla y León, the conference was opened by Santiago Aparicio, president of CEOE Castilla y León, Miguel Calvo, Iberdrola's delegate in the region, and Alfonso Arroyo, director general of Energy and Mines of the Junta de Castilla y León. During the meeting, practical examples of companies such as Cascajares and Verescence were presented at a table moderated by Patricia Figar, head of CAEs Management at Iberdrola, which have carried out their implementation through the implementation of energy efficiency measures and the monetisation of these energy savings.
In addition, Alfredo Cadórniga, head of the Industrial Area of the Subsidies and Registers Department of the Regional Energy Agency of Castilla y León (EREN), explained the process and Fernando Corvo, commercial director of Balantia, showed some basic principles to simplify the process.

You save on energy consumption and get paid for it
Aerothermal energy, electrification of ovens, heat recovery, monitoring and savings systems (BMS), renewal of equipment as long as you do not consume fossil fuels... a universe of possibilities opens up to save on energy consumption and, what's more, you get paid for it. This is the essence of the Energy Saving Certificate (ESC) system that has arrived in Spain to stay.
It is proposed to SMEs, companies and industries to carry out energy efficiency actions with more discounts directly and automatically in the same bill, unlike the NextGeneration subsidies. this way, decarbonisation is boosted and for customers it is the simplest and most economical alternative.
Included in the wide range of services offered is the creation of CAEs directly in the price of the products that generate energy savings, in order to then settle the CAEs generated by the action. For example, a school or agri-food industry can receive 200% of the investment by reducing its fossil fuel consumption. But there is a wide range of options: it is also possible to replace a combustion vehicle with an electric vehicle or change the lighting in a building, among others.
For every 1 kWh of savings, 1 CAE is achieved and the end-user may receive a consideration if he/she sells the savings obtained for further certification through the CAE System.
