Iberdrola España surpasses 325 public recharging points in the Murcia Region

  • All points supply 100% green energy, which contributes to decarbonisation and improves air quality
  • The company, which has more than 8,400 points nationwide, has put into operation more than 25% of the chargers installed in Spain during 2024

Iberdrola España has now reached more than 325 public charging points for electric vehicles installed in the Murcia region and has surpassed 8,400 nationwide, after putting into operation more than 25% of the points installed during 2024 in Spain, which reinforces its position as the most extensive public charging network in the country.

In addition to this infrastructure, which is already operational, there are nearly 4,000 more points throughout the country, including those under construction and awaiting paperwork, which will be available in the coming months.

Iberdrola España was recently awarded the contract for the maintenance and operation of more than 120 new charging points by the Murcia City Council and continues to collaborate with various public bodies and private companies to find locations where more electric vehicle chargers can be installed.

Of the more than 325 points in operation in the Region of Murcia, approximately 30% are fast, super-fast and ultra-fast recharging points, which means that they can charge 200 km of autonomy in between 5 and 40 minutes.

The high-power charging points have been developed and operated since last year by Iberdrola | bp pulse, a 50:50 strategic partnership between the two companies to lead the deployment of fast and ultra-fast public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in Spain and Portugal.

In addition, Iberdrola | bp pulse have already put into operation the first public MCS (Megawatt Charging System) charger for heavy electric vehicles in southern Europe. Manufactured by the Spanish company Power Electronics, it has a power rating of up to 1,440 kW and is located in Murcia, at the Disfrimur logistics base in Sangonera la Seca, a company dedicated to goods transport and logistics.

Iberdrola España, which has continued to set up 10 recharging points every business day in Spain over the past year, thus demonstrates its commitment to electric mobility, the only mobility option that improves air quality and makes spaces more sustainable.

Iberdrola España's electric mobility strategy is based on the installation of charging points with different power ratings to allow users to select the option that best suits their needs at any given time.

Its charging points with less than 50 kW are in places where the driver will spend more time, for example in shopping centres or supermarkets, while its aim with fast charging stations is to place one every 50 km or less to make long-distance trips possible.

All the points installed by Iberdrola España supply 100% green energy from renewable sources with a guarantee of origin (GdOS), which helps to combat climate change and achieve a transition to a fossil fuel independent model.

Users can access the company's network using the Iberdrola Public Charging App, the most highly rated in the industry, where they can view and geolocate verified information

Electromap recognition

Iberdrola España's public charging network has been recognised as the best grid infrastructure by Electromaps, the app focused on providing access to public charging points. The awards ceremony on the occasion of the app's 15th anniversary highlighted industry leaders, experts and institutions to recognise the main drivers of electric mobility in Spain.

The awards recognised companies, institutions and individuals who have made a significant contribution to the development of charging infrastructure and the adoption of electric vehicles. The winners were chosen through a combination of votes from Electromaps users and app expert opinion.
