Iberdrola España and the Valladolid City Council drive fast and semi-fast electric vehicles charging
- This system can charge up to 200 km of autonomy in 5 to 40 minutes, for 4 electric cars at the same time
- The first parking and charging station for electric scooters will be opened with 16 spaces
- With this partnership, both entities promote sustainable urban mobility while offering a value-added service
- Solum, winner of the Iberdrola Start-Up Challenge: Micromobility, was in charge of setting up the infrastructure
The Valladolid City Council and Iberdrola España have joined forces in the commitment to fight climate change, decarbonise cities and electric mobility with the implementation of an electric vehicle charging system on Francesco Scrimieri Street, next to the Millennium Dome, where 4 electric cars can now be charged fast and semi-fast, with a range of up to 200km in 5 to 40 minutes, at the same time.
The first parking, storage and charging station for electric scooters in the city was also set up on the sidewalk on Avda de Miguel Ángel Blanco, also next to the Plaza del Milenio, with 16 stations.
With this partnership, both entities promote sustainable urban mobility while offering a value-added service.
The Mayor of Valladolid, Jesús Julio Carnero, visited both installations with the Iberdrola España rep for Castilla y León, Miguel Calvo, where he stressed that "these ultra-fast chargers, in the city centre, are going to make it easier for everyone to meet a need that is growing every day, electric vehicles. And the fact that Valladolid is a pioneer, hand in hand with Iberdrola España, in the field of electric scooter charging, speaks very well of the concern we both have for a mobility of coexistence, which is what we aim to have: that pedestrians, cyclists, and users of public or private vehicles can have all the possibilities on hand and can move around in a logical and satisfactory way".
Miguel Calvo stressed that "we continue to make progress in decarbonisation and energy self-sufficiency through the electrification of two key sectors of our economy, transport and industry. The scale of this challenge requires public-private partnerships, which have the technology and know-how necessary to accelerate the well-being of the community and contribute to the development of more sustainable cities".
It should be noted that users of these installations will be charging the batteries of their electric cars and scooters with 100% green energy thanks to the solar panels installed on the marquee.
Solum implementing the infrastructure
Solum, winner of the Iberdrola Start-up Challenge: Micromobility, was in charge of setting up this infrastructure in the city of Valladolid.
Solum opened its business in 2019 with the aim of taking advantage of urban spaces to generate clean energy. It developed this solution which can accommodate scooters and has not brought that idea to fruition.
For efficient and sustainable mobility
The fight against climate change is one of the greatest challenges that humanity will have to face in the 21st century, and the decarbonisation of the economy and mobility is essential to do so. Iberdrola España has been a pioneer in the energy transition for 20 years, and is a leader in renewable energy.
Transport is responsible for a quarter of global CO2 emissions and a large part of pollution in urban environments. Particularly in urban areas, this electrification involves the penetration of personal mobility vehicles such as bicycles, scooters and electric motorbikes. These types of vehicles are not only more efficient and environmentally friendly, but also greatly help to reduce congestion in cities and improve air quality. To promote this type of transport, a comfortable and safe infrastructure is needed to organize how these vehicles are parked.
Iberdrola España is committed to electrifying transport and to do so is following an ambitious Sustainable Mobility Plan. It plans to install more than 100,000 electric vehicle chargers, including fast, super-fast and ultra-fast points, by 2025.
Iberdrola España hits 760 public charging points in Castile and Leon
Iberdrola España has now reached 760 public charging points for electric vehicles in Castilla y León and has surpassed 8,000 in Spain, after putting into operation more than 25% of the points installed during 2024, which reinforces its position as the most extensive public charging network in the country.
In addition to this already-operational infrastructure, there are nearly 4,000 more points throughout the country, including those under construction and pending paperwork, which will be available in the coming months.
Of the 760 points in operation in all the provinces of Castilla y León, approximately 30% are fast, super-fast and ultra-fast recharging points, which means that they are capable of recharging 200km of autonomy in 5 to 40 minutes, allowing any journey operated by the Iberdrola | bp pulse partnership.
