Iberdrola España and EROSKI join forces to reduce the carbon footprint of all the supermarket chain's sites

  • The energy company will advise and help EROSKI to undertake the best energy efficiency and decarbonisation projects based on its consumption and the possibilities of its facilities

  • All the actions that EROSKI undertakes in its sites to improve their energy efficiency will be associated with Energy Saving Certificates (CAES), which will be managed by Iberdrola España

Iberdrola España and EROSKI have taken another step in their partnership agreement and will work together to reduce the carbon footprint of all the supermarket chain's sites through different electrification solutions. EROSKI's supermarkets and work centres will reduce their emissions and will be able to save on their energy bills through different interventions. Electricity from renewable sources is the most efficient energy solution, and also enables independence from fossil fuels.

Iberdrola España will analyse and study the different alternatives that EROSKI can carry out with an energy audit and will advise them on how to undertake the best efficiency projects based on their consumption and installations.

All the actions that EROSKI undertakes in its sites to improve their energy efficiency will entail additional savings for EROSKI through the Energy Saving Certificate System (CAES), which will be managed and processed by Iberdrola España.

The projects will be managed through the Net Zero Emissions Manager platform, recently launched as a result of Iberdrola España's the acquisition of 100% of Balantia. The tool calculates CO2 footprint, determining the processes with the greatest impact and automatically prepares a decarbonisation plan focused on compliance with regulations and climate targets for 2030 and 2050. It also manages equipment inventory data, asset profiles and invoices.

This new agreement focused on reducing emmisions is a further demonstration of the commitment of the two companies to advance the energy transition. In June last year, both companies announced the installation of 1,000 electric vehicle charging points, powered by 100% green energy from renewable sources with Guaranteed Guarantee of Origin (GoO) certification, at around 300 of the distribution group's sites.

“This agreement reinforces Iberdrola España's decarbonisation strategy and demonstrates the need for all the agents involved in the path towards energy transition to work together. Once again, the EROSKI group is clearly an ally in advancing along this path in the fight for the environment and to improve our society", explained Eduardo Lobato, sales representative for Iberdrola España's northern area.

Our efforts to move towards carbon neutrality by 2050 are focused first and foremost on minimising our emissions from activities directly controlled by the organisation. The levers for this are improving the efficiency of our equipment and processes, increasing the use of renewable energies and more sustainable procurement in all our activities, from platforms and logistics centres to more sustainable shops and fleets", said EROSKI's Director of Health and Sustainability, Alejandro Martínez Berriochoa.
