i-DE guarantees the electricity supply to data processing centres on election night

  • Aware that electricity infrastructures are key throughout the vote count, it has
carried out a series of actions that have contributed to the smooth running of the
    municipal and regional elections.

i-DE, Iberdrola España distribution company, has guaranteed the electricity supply to data processing centres in the eight provinces of Castile and León where it manages the distribution network - all except Segovia - throughout election night.

The deployment of resources to restore service and minimise the impact on customers is a priority for the company. Therefore, aware that electricity infrastructures are key throughout the vote count, it has carried out a series of actions that have helped the municipal and regional elections to run smoothly.

The company, which has mobilised around 70 people between its own and contracted 24x7 resources, identified weeks beforehand the different facilities that supply power to the Government Sub-delegations that became the data processing centres on election night. It also deployed its field team in the different provinces - the Territorial Distribution Units - which carried out an exhaustive review of the head-end positions in substations and transformer stations and also checked the status of the remote-controlled infrastructures.

Thanks to the constant work of the great team that makes up Iberdrola's distribution company, electricity reaches our homes 365 days a year. They are not only responsible for repairing any specific incident, but also for constant maintenance and guaranteeing that the electricity supply reaches both large cities and small towns.

A level of service quality above the national average

Iberdrola's distribution company has improved the quality of the electricity supply it offers its customers in Castile and León by 20% by the end of 2022. The index that measures this service - Interruption Time Equivalent to Installed Power (TIEPI) - accumulated to date is below 45 minutes. In this way, the company achieves the best year-end value in its history.

These figures are the result of i-DE's investments in new electrical infrastructures and the maintenance and renewal of existing ones, as well as its ambitious digitalisation plan.

The company, which maintains a level of service quality in the region above the national average, has in recent years undertaken an ambitious plan to digitalise its electricity grids, converting its more than 1.5 million meters and the infrastructure that supports them into smart meters, incorporating remote management, supervision and automation capabilities.

Iberdrola's distributor Iberdrola will continue to promote its electricity grid infrastructure in Castile and León, which is key to ensuring the transition to a carbon-free economy, and despite already offering its customers the best quality in the system, has set a target of improving its supply quality by 10% by 2025. This improvement in quality will also have a positive impact on the affordability of electricity supply for customers and will allow for further service improvements.

In Castile and León, i-DE manages more than 43,707 km of low and medium voltage lines and more than 6,410 km of high and very high voltage lines. It also has 15,658 transformation centres in service and 246 substations. The company maintains a level of service quality in the region above the national average, with the best year-end value in history.
