The Prado Museum brings its works to the streets

The fair — curated by Fernando Pérez Suescun, head of Didactic Contents of the Prado Museum — allows the visiting public to take a tour through the different artistic schools covered by the Prado's permanent collections and learn about the history of Spain, Europe and Western art in general, as painted by the great masters. The Spanish, Italian, Flemish, French, German and Dutch schools are represented through artists from the 12^th century to the early 20^thcentury.

The exhibition aims to promote knowledge and awareness of the collections and the cultural identity related to the museum's historical heritage by encouraging educational programmes and cultural outreach activities. It also aims to virtually recreate the experience of visiting the museum by making it possible to view the paintings in their real dimensions.

El Prado in Valencian Community

The traveling museum takes to the Valencian Community. 'El Prado en las Calles' [The Prado in the Streets] will tour different cities along the Valencian coast starting in Benidorm in September 2024, followed by Ontinyent, Castellón, Sagunt, Alicante, Valencia, Vinaròs, Orihuela, and will conclude in Burriana in July 2025.

The exhibition features 50 works from the gallery that will take visitors on a journey through the history of Spain, Europe and Western art with masters of painting such as Goya, Velázquez and El Greco.

El Prado in Andalusia

The exhibition in 2023 visits multiple cities in Andalusia during what is its fifth tour of Spain. This initiative, which shows the paintings in their real dimensions, will stop in Úbeda (Jaén), Fuengirola (Málaga), Arcos de la Frontera (Cádiz) and Lepe (Huelva).

The public has access to 50 of the most important works from the Prado Museum's permanent collection on a 1:1 scale with this photographic exhibition. In addition, in order to promote the museum's educational programmes and cultural activities, there is an explanatory leaflet in the form of an exhibition catalogue. 

El Prado in Extremadura

The exhibition had its fourth tour, this time in ExtremaduraExternal link, opens in new window. , where it will travelled to six locations in the region.

Inaugurated in Badajoz on 22 April 2021External link, opens in new window. , the exhibition reproduces a series of paintings in their real dimensions in an attempt to offer the spectator an experience similar to that of being in the presence of the real work, making known not only the collections but also the historical heritage attached to the Museo del Prado through different cultural dissemination activities.

THe exhibition has visited five cities in Extremadura, Badajoz, Don Benito, Plasencia, Zafra and Cáceres, ending its tour of the autonomous community in September 2022.

El Prado in Castile and Leon

The exhibition 'The Prado Museum in the streets' has been a great success in
the tour it has made until 21 February in Castilla y León, being installed in Salamanca, Valladolid, León, Aguilar de Campoo (Palencia), Burgos, Soria, Segovia, Ávila and Benavente (Zamora). In practically one year, thousands of visitors have been able to enjoy some of the wonders of the Prado, reinforcing culture through daily visits and always respecting the anti-COVID-19 safety regulations in force.

El Prado in La Mancha

The success obtained by the exhibition during the celebration of the museum's bicentennial led to the preparation, in 2019/2020, of a new edition, which toured — with the collaboration of the Castilla-La Mancha government— eight towns in this autonomous community: Sigüenza (Guadalajara), Puertollano (Ciudad Real), Tomelloso (Ciudad Real), Ciudad Real, Toledo, Guadalajara, Talavera de la Reina (Toledo) and Cuenca.

Bicentennial of the museum

As part of the museum's Bicentennial Commemoration, this exhibition toured Elche (Alicante), Eibar (Guipúzcoa), Cartagena (Murcia), Palencia, Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz), Zamora, Albacete and Mérida (Badajoz) throughout 2019 and part of 2020. The company contributed 180,000 euros to it.

Iberdrola, through its foundation in Spain, has collaborated with the Prado Museum since 2010 as a protector member,supporting the conservation and restoration programmes developed by the gallery and maintaining the four annual grants for young restorers. In addition, it adhered to the Extraordinary Programme for the Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the Prado Museum and, specifically, to the deployment of this traveling exhibition in Spain.
