SPOTIFY EQUAL FEST
Iberdrola España promotes Spotify EQUAL Fest, the festival where women take centre stage
Iberdrola España promoted in 2023 the first edition in Spain of Spotify EQUAL Fest, the festival that aims to promote gender equality in the Spanish music industry. The platform's first live concert was held on Friday 22 September at the WiZink Center in Madrid with artists such as Nathy Peluso, Ptazeta, Natalia Lacunza, Judeline and Lola Índigo, who took the stage to show that the best music knows no gender.
Iberdrola España ve la música como una poderosa herramienta para alcanzar la igualdad.
What is Spotify EQUAL Fest?
In Spain, only one in five Spotify artists is a woman. The figure shows that there is still a long way to go to achieve gender equality in the music industry, but the Spotify EQUAL Fest is here to remedy the situation. With the aim of recognising the contributions of women in music and advocating for equal opportunities between the sexes, the music platform organised this first edition of an all-female festival. The event had the support of Iberdrola España as one of its main sponsors.
At the end of December, Spotify EQUAL holded an awards ceremony to recognise the best female musicians, producers and women in the industry. The ceremony was also be supported by us.
Iberdrola España, a promoter of culture and equality through music
This is not the first time that the Iberdrola Group, of which Iberdrola España is part, has chosen music as a tool to promote social change. In July 2023 we inaugurated Iberdrola Music, the largest sustainable space in Europe dedicated to leisure and culture. It is a space with stages electrified with 100% green energy. Located in the Villaverde district of Madrid, it covers 185,000 square metres and has the capacity to host more than 100,000 people.
With this sustainable leisure project, we reaffirm our commitment to the fight against climate change and to reducing the emission of tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
Making women's talent visible on the music scene
Our support for Spotify Equal FEST 2023 is part of our goal to not only eliminate any form of discrimination or violence against women, as we understand that that is a fundamental and inalienable right, but also to generate opportunities to make them visible and empower the talent of women in different areas of society. Specifically, in this case, we want to give visibility to female talent in the music industry.
Iberdrola España and gender equality
The Iberdrola Group has some of the company's initiatives to promote equality around the world. Not only do we work for equality in the music sector, but we also aim to contribute to achieving equality in sport - since 2016, the Iberdrola Group has been the main promoter of women's sport in Spain -, society and employment.
In addition, one of Fundación Iberdrola España's main lines of work is the fight against discrimination against women. Through alliances that we establish with non-profit organisations, we promote projects to support women every year. In 2022, we worked with the following organisations: Asociación de mujeres afectadas por el cáncer de mama (AMACMEC), Asociación Madrileña para la ayuda del recluso abandonado (AMPARA), Asociación Bizitegi, Asociación Candelita, Federación Red Acoge, Fundación Altius Francisco de Vitoria, Fundación Aldaba PH Valladolid, Fundación Ayuda en Acción, Fundación Gizakia y Suspergintza, and Asociación de Intervención Social. Through different programmes and projects, we work to set up flats for homeless women, to train and empower women who want to work in masculinised sectors, to promote a programme of care for women victims of gender violence due to substance use disorder, and to provide psychological, physical and social care for women affected by breast cancer, among many other things.
